blackdog Posted April 21, 2014 Report Posted April 21, 2014 Luckily he didn't fuck up that one, i love the Rainmaker! Say I'm biased* but I don't want to give Coppola much credit for that. Have you read the book? It's basically a ready made script. And just compare it to any other movie based on Grisham's novels: they're all good films, they're all true to the novels, it's just that stories got weaker, like the books did (I've read them all – Rainmaker is Grisham's apex). Same with Godfather, read the book, the movie is a scene by scene transposition. When it was time to use some creativity he failed. *I cannot forgive him for filming that utter shit that is Dracula. He mangled one of my childhood best memories. Quote
Erratic Posted April 21, 2014 Report Posted April 21, 2014 I can accept some resistance to apocalypse now. It's a demanding watch and can test your patience but it's one of the greats so you might just have to eventually come to terms with your bad taste. Also I wouldn't be so dismissive about the source material. Painting Coppola as the port-studio equivalent of a film maker is some pretty damning shit. My goodness. Patton was quite good and disqualifies at least that portion of your argument. I haven't read shit from Grisham but I'll go out on a limb and say he ain't a high water mark for PROSE FICTION. What's usually regarded as low-brow reading is often turned into high-art films, not because the source was so good but the film turned it into something more. Like The Shining. But I like Godfather III so maybe I'm not the best one to talk to about this. Quote

Minos Posted April 22, 2014 Report Posted April 22, 2014 Transcendence - Very forgettable movie, the premise was pretty nice but you can tell the people who made the movie had only a very superficial understanding of how things work. In the end it's a very dumbed down movie, maybe people who never read any scifi stories might find it interesting (which I doubt since the pacing is very slow and the characters shallow and uninteresting). I was never a Johnny Derp fan but this movie only shows how he usually doesn't give a crap when acting. I dunno, maybe he's just a bad actor. Don't get me wrong, this is not a horrible movie but in a few weeks nobody will remember it ever existed. 4/10 House of Cards 2 - Just as great as the first season, great stuff! 9/10 Quote
D3ads Posted April 23, 2014 Report Posted April 23, 2014 (edited) I'm trying to finish watching all 24 seasons before the new one, I'm on 5 right now and I just swore blind that I saw John McCain walk into the CTU briefing room.... turns out I was right! http://24.wikia.com/wiki/John_McCain Anyone else aware of this?! blackdog Posted April 24, 2014 Report Posted April 24, 2014 Too long time ago, probably at the time I watched it he still hadn't run so was unknown to me in Italy. Quote
kinggambit Posted April 24, 2014 Report Posted April 24, 2014 (edited) Beasts of the Southern Wild. The dad and daughter cast had amazing performances and the story was creative (not about global warming surprisingly) . Had to fight off my tears at the end. That shit was tough! On a side note, does anyone know any films with good cinematography? I love people like Roger Deakins (The Assassination of Jesse James and a lot of Coen bro's films) who really like to get creative with lighting. Edited April 24, 2014 by kinggambit Quote
Taylor Swift Posted April 24, 2014 Report Posted April 24, 2014 i dont know what i watched. but i watched a movie called haunt. it scared the shit out of me Quote
Thrik Posted May 5, 2014 Report Posted May 5, 2014 Finally got round to burning through Luther on Netflix. Seriously edge-of-seat stuff, one of the best crime dramas I've seen. Programmes like this always get me thinking about how sad it is that people end up with similar fates in the real world though, god damn. Also got through the first season of The Following, which I thought was similarly superb. D3ads 1 Quote

blackdog Posted May 6, 2014 Report Posted May 6, 2014 (edited) I still have to see the first Alien :$ as those movies came out before I was born or shortly after, I watched them in this order: Alien 3, 4, Aliens. Always waited on the first for a super director's cut box set… but then HD came along and I waited my parents to get a big TV. Since we actually got rid of ours and never replaced it, I decided to download the directors cut HD just recently and gonna watch here were I work before Isolation comes out ~ I've seen Out Of The Furnace a few days ago, I'd say it's the male, and more enjoyable, version of Winter's Bone. Chimeray Posted May 7, 2014 Report Posted May 7, 2014 (edited) Babylon AD. Not sure where the hate comes from, I enjoyed it quite a bit! Saw the extended version so maybe that one is better than the theatrical cut? Edited May 7, 2014 by Chimeray Sprony 1 Quote
