In light of creating a whole bunch of models and textures to fit a Romanesque theme, I was wondering how some of you guys approach the creation of texture sets. Really, I'd like to find out a bit of info on how textures in a set can be created to complement each other in terms of style, colour scheme, etc.

It's always a balance between keeping the texture style and palette similar enough, while not making them too similar and boring.

Something I seem to do quite often is to try and break down a palette early on where I have some strong base colors that I can continue to use throughout the set. That doesn't mean all other colors outside that palette are forbidden though (important :))
