Rick_D Posted July 12, 2011 Report Posted July 12, 2011 and that is a pretty bad analogy because at least i can view google+ in english, someone know how to change language in origin? Quote
Gloglebag Posted July 12, 2011 Report Posted July 12, 2011 As far as E-Freak go's, multi quotes are annoying for me to deal with so I'm going to answer you in one big blurb but in order( just imagine I quoted you). When you refuse to buy form anything other then steam you are forcing companies to use it. As far as starforce, I never had a problem with it nor did it take up as much resources or delay me playing a game as much as steam. But more importantly starforce isn't really much a player on the western market anymore. Origin allows you to do the same as steam except it does not need to run every time. So does gamersgate and it doesn't even require any app at all. 30% can be a lot of money, it may not mean much for the survival of BF franchise but for games like Mirror's Edge, it could mean the difference between break even, or weather or not it gets a sequel. regardless the less money a company can expect the less chances they will take. The market is clearly not wide open and developers are not free to leave, when a large percentage of people refuse to buy anything not on steam. In any case gamedevs should not suffer because valve managed to get a hold on the on-line distribution market, because they forced you to install steam to play any of their games, no matter if they were retail or not, and refused to put them on rival networks. Rick_D Posted July 12, 2011 Report Posted July 12, 2011 thanks glogle, i am using the website and there is not such settings option. how convenient.. Quote
Jetsetlemming Posted July 13, 2011 Report Posted July 13, 2011 origin is to steam what google+ is to facebook Maybe I would care more about this analogy if I had more than just family + a few random people on facebook rather than like 70+ people on g+ already (hooray for getting on the new fad bandwagon early!) Taylor Posted July 13, 2011 Report Posted July 13, 2011 Steam is like an online digital distribution platform for the PC, whereas all the other online digital distribution platforms for PC are like an online digital distribution platform for the PC that I don’t have installed. If game developers are going to suffer, it’s when people don’t buy games because every publisher is running their own Betamax Steam clone. But I’m not going to buy Battlefield anyway, unless they add a sexually androgynous class where you skewer people on your spiky hair. Quote
Skjalg Posted July 13, 2011 Report Posted July 13, 2011 I have actually tried to search for a downladable installer for origin on their site, to no avail. It doesn't really help that the site is in german (probably because im in germany, but it would be nice of them to ask first, like google back when I first came down here google was all like. "are you sure you dont want to go to google.de? [yes] [fuck no]". I really want to give dice my money here for bf3, because I think its looks so fucking awesome, plus I absolutely love that someone is taking up the fight against steam (dont get me wrong, i love steam and everything, but competition is healthy for a good market, plus I want cheaper games overall. And as a developer I will probably benefit more from a better deal than what steam gives). Quote
Mazy Posted July 26, 2011 Report Posted July 26, 2011 Videos from the alpha trial have started popping up http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0djf23itXAA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MQG3UWaxE1U Quote
Rick_D Posted July 26, 2011 Report Posted July 26, 2011 i watched his other videos, he sounds like he has well reasoned opinions and truly enjoys video gamnes. what a cunt. Quote
dux Posted July 27, 2011 Report Posted July 27, 2011 Played bf2 for many years so got high hopes on this. Confused by some of things I saw in this, but it's Alpha, whatever. Quote
Grinwhrl Posted July 27, 2011 Report Posted July 27, 2011 Today, I got the chance to actually play the BF3 alpha for well over 2 hours. Took some time to adjust to it, but once I did, I really want some more! From what I played, it didn't feel that much different from Bad Company 2; but really improved upon player & vehicle handling/animations and double the amount of incredible Sounds/VO and FX. For, me I felt right at home. Quote
