xfckup Posted April 8, 2011 Author Report Posted April 8, 2011 A bit off topic, but i just had a spontaneous interview with a postproduction house in berlin. I needed to show them some stuff i did in the past, so i threw together this little motionreel, heavy wip, but better than going there showing them nothing meanwhile, had some email contact and interview with the recruiter of a good gaming studio, but things are going really really slow...even applied to Crytek or Irrational Games but never got a reply, so i won't even try to apply to Dice... I am sure it is not the correct way to just use the fantastic song by Boards of Canada, i bought the track but not the right to use it on this reel, should i write them an email asking them for permission or just use an open source song like the ones given in youtubes audioswap? or its this fair use? Rick_D Posted April 8, 2011 Report Posted April 8, 2011 awesome. some of the most polished pictures on a portfolio in a long time! for a games industry job i guess some presentation of another engine but quake3/cod might be usefull (or at least a hint in your about page, that you know unreal or cryengine) it doesn't matter what engine or tools you use, as long as you can learn stuff then nobody cares. especially for your first job they expect to have to teach you their tools anyway. xfckup Posted August 15, 2011 Author Report Posted August 15, 2011 A little update on things; I've been offered a contract for a level designer position at Treyarch, so I will stick to work with Radiant (just hope there will be no problems with the visa process...). It will be strange to leave Germany to work in California, but I think this opportunity is the best that could happen to me to get some insights and experiences, regarding I have no working backround in the game industry. Cheers and thank you again for your feedback, it encouraged me to keep trying! Quote
Puddy Posted August 15, 2011 Report Posted August 15, 2011 That's excellent man, congrats and I wish you the best! Always nice to hear when things work out. Quote
Vilham Posted August 15, 2011 Report Posted August 15, 2011 That showreel was awesome, what job have you secured btw? Also your talents are wasted in the games industry from the look of it. Quote
Chimeray Posted August 15, 2011 Report Posted August 15, 2011 .even applied to Crytek or Irrational Games but never got a reply, so i won't even try to apply to Dice... I almost didn't apply to Dice as well, but then I did and guess where I ended up... So a note for the future: The sky's the limit. What's the worst thing that could happen by applying? Gratz on the job man, that's a great opportunity! Quote
Mazy Posted August 16, 2011 Report Posted August 16, 2011 Awesome, grats. I liked my Codblops~~ Quote
