FMPONE Posted July 23, 2021 Report Posted July 23, 2021 Bioshock 1 was the best, 2 was pretty good, by 3 I think Ken Levine... well, I don't know what went wrong exactly. but something went wrong. On paper that game should have been fantastic, and it had a lot going for it even on launch. It seemed like either the pressure got to him, or the management was really fucking things up. Something gummed up the works. I've read a few articles that try to attribute the "failure" of Infinite to Levine and they seem really disingenuous. There is no Bioshock without him and it seems much more likely that they didn't balance him out with someone very practically-minded on the business side, which is the whole point of having leadership, is knowing what to do with your creative team, other than setting them up for failure and then pinning failure on them. -HP- and will2k 2 Quote
Bunglo Posted July 23, 2021 Report Posted July 23, 2021 I played a bit of bioshock 2 but it not being developed by Irrational and me being unable to play the game for sometime like many others on Steam, I basically passed on it. I thought Infinite was going to be another game changer for me like Bioshock was, but after playing 4 or 5 hours, I still could not get into it. I never bothered finishing it. I don't know what happened in the time between gameplay demos and release, but looking at those original gameplay demos they showed, the released product took a huge nosedive in overall quality. Honestly, they don't even seem like the same game. As for the business side, I took a creature design class under Anthony Jones and the topic came up. He basically said Irrational failed because they were keen on hiring friends instead of people who would get the job done. Regardless, the first Bioshock is legendary and the team that was apart of that should be damn proud. Buddy 1 Quote
Bunglo Posted July 27, 2021 Report Posted July 27, 2021 I'm reinstalling it, let's see if I finish it this time. Quote
dux Posted July 27, 2021 Report Posted July 27, 2021 I'd suggest playing System Shock 2 - maybe that will give you the Bioshock experience you're after, considering it invented Bioshock Quote
AlexM Posted July 27, 2021 Report Posted July 27, 2021 Finally got a PS5. Played demons souls for almost 9 hours straight Also playing Returnal and Astro's playroom. Both really good games. Quote
ZZZ Posted July 27, 2021 Report Posted July 27, 2021 The original Prey. For the first time ever a game is making me feel nauseous for real. Quote

Even the character throws up at some point. I’ve considered it the worst €8 I’ve spent. Edited July 28, 2021 by blackdog Quote
Vilham Posted July 27, 2021 Report Posted July 27, 2021 Finally played through fallout 4, got all the mods a while back so its been on my replay list. Installed some mods to make it better and just ensured i had perks to give me ammo so power armour is infinite. Working through the DLC now that I finished the main story. Was ok I guess, nothing crazy and too many irritating mechanics like all the secondary settlements that aren't at all interesting or unique. Quote
ZZZ Posted July 28, 2021 Report Posted July 28, 2021 Just deleted Prey. This game is the most stupid FPS game ever. Nothing in it makes sense. The leveldesign, the plot, the enemies, the powers, the weapons, everything in this game is completely nonsense. It feels as if they stitched together unused ideas from quake and duke nukem. Then they made some levels that are clearly inspired by the Independence Day movie. Why did they ever made it? The gravity trick and the portals are cool but that's all about this game. The sole puzzle that had some creativity in it was the cube one. Everything else is illogical. No single level in this game has a sense of being belivable, it's just a series of constructions that scream hollywood movies. Lizard and blackdog 1 1 Quote
blackdog Posted July 28, 2021 Report Posted July 28, 2021 (edited) Perfect analysis @0kelvin, the two positive things that stuck in my mind are: the “no game over yet” mini game the gravity and spirit mode were fun in multiplayer, having bought it when people were still playing I managed to play a couple matches; I felt really smart letting someone chase me, drop into a hole and leaving my body in plain view on the other side, while I was just a few steps back in spirit and nailed the guy with an arrow. but that’s about it, I think I did delete it after the mp session Edited July 28, 2021 by blackdog Quote

There were a few nice set pieces but the gravity and portals that would have been interesting to create alternate paths and some sort of mini sandbox situation were just an upside down corridor that winds left and right instead of going straight through a room because alien reasons. Shooting upside down wasn’t fun as one would think. The organic design of the weapons is not exciting. The character was a douche like Duke. Quote
