Sentura Posted May 10, 2015 Author Report Posted May 10, 2015 I think people fool themselves into thinking links are harder to do than they are. Sure they require some practice, but it's not like something you need to train 10 hours a day to hit. I wish fighting games would do away with plinking though Quote
Puddy Posted May 10, 2015 Report Posted May 10, 2015 SNAKEBIRD!! really great http://store.steampowered.com/app/357300/ lmao nice Quote
Taylor Posted May 10, 2015 Report Posted May 10, 2015 Fair point. I'm so far away from high level play I can't even begin to see how the execution is handled at that level. Basically the initial low-level play is a lot more rewarding because you can get a decent combo by just chaning from weak to strong most of the time. In street fighter, outside of target combos it's pretty hard to get a decent combo at low level.Yeah, and when you do start doing the more training-mode combos it’s not to link two crouching punches together, but to do something cool like have May RC her throw and setup Applause For the Victim so she can jump on it later. I think it’s a very well put together game, and really gets the risk/reward right where things that do damage take a setup or leave yourself open. Plus I still can'r get over how nice it looks.I remembered that Valentine (Or Ramlethal as she's called now for whatever reason) has a dragon punch that you can only combo from if you just frame. It's not a real just frame, you just have to end the input at down-forward rather than doing the scrub shortcut, but it's pretty needless edition. That's my only real gripe execution wise, though. I think people fool themselves into thinking links are harder to do than they are. Sure they require some practice, but it's not like something you need to train 10 hours a day to hit. I wish fighting games would do away with plinking thoughPlinking is exclusive to Street Fighter 4 because of an input bug, but I guess you meant the idea of links? In theory they are hard to stamp out, especially if you want combos more interesting than normal chain -> special -> super. Although Mortal Kombat X is quite draconian with what you can do, and will actually pop the enemy neutral if you attempt to link something it doesn't like. Quote
Sentura Posted May 11, 2015 Author Report Posted May 11, 2015 (edited) No I was talking exclusively about plinking. I wasn't sure whether it was exclusive or not, but either way I don't think it's meaningful to have in a game. Capcom seems to disagree however, since they deliberately redid the bug in SFIV. I'm fine with normal links as it's a bit more of a challenge than just button mashing. I'd like to see some experimentation with linking and see how far you can take in terms of squeezing out as much skill as possible out of players without making it something you need to practice 15 years a day to perfect Edited May 11, 2015 by Sentura Quote
Taylor Posted May 11, 2015 Report Posted May 11, 2015 I do not mind links, most of that Sol Sidewinder example video is made of links. but I am against the idea of learning one-frame timings just to connect two ground normals together. It's boring to learn, do and watch.AFAIK the only games with plinking are SF4 and MvC3. Quote
Sentura Posted May 12, 2015 Author Report Posted May 12, 2015 Yeah, one frame links are exactly the kind of stuff I'm referring to. It just shouldn't exist. It doesn't add to the gameplay or make it more interesting, it's just making the game impossible for anyone but top evo players. Taylor 1 Quote
Mazy Posted June 4, 2015 Report Posted June 4, 2015 (edited) Been playing Splatoon for a few hours and holy crap this game rocks! Really satisfying to run around get everything painted and try to keep the opposing team balanced out, with the close calls (as in nearly 50/50 of the top down map being both colours) with incredibly exciting end of match score counts. The motion control aiming didn't really do it for me tho, though I appreciate the idea But of course Nintendo nails shooters, tho it's not really the shooter part that's so great about it Edited June 5, 2015 by Mazy Taylor 1 Quote
DrywallDreams Posted June 4, 2015 Report Posted June 4, 2015 The motion controls are so good though! Fine aiming on gyro is such a good idea. Quote
ZZZ Posted June 5, 2015 Report Posted June 5, 2015 I've lost faith in MP games. MP games, specially those e-sports, are filled with toxic players, cheaters and the worst kind of players. Taylor, Sprony and tomm 3 Quote
Pampers Posted June 6, 2015 Report Posted June 6, 2015 Tested Ark: Survival Evolved with some friends, still early access. Has lots of potential, but performance is some of the worst I've ever seen. Will probably be playable in 2-3 years Quote
Taylor Posted June 8, 2015 Report Posted June 8, 2015 (edited) Splatoon is a lot of fun. I'm only level 6 but I'm getting the hang of it. As someone who regularly plays League of Legends I now naturally hate everyone I meet in online game by defaul,t because it streamlines the entire process, but Splatoon multiplayer is setup in a very Nintendo way. There's no way to send messages, no voice chat, matches are really short and chaotic, and after each round it jumbles the teams and fills leavers. Honestly, the most a frumpy player can do is piss off. Single player is also pretty fun, I heard someone say it sucked and it was all about angling ink into balloons. It is not this. Also playing Xrd! I haven't really been practicing it, but now we have an actual group of people at work so I might start taking it more seriously. Edited June 8, 2015 by Taylor Quote
Puddy Posted June 9, 2015 Report Posted June 9, 2015 Played some helldivers tonight and I was just really tired. Played with 3 random russians and I just started smiling uncontrollably when they called in 4 mechs (one for me too!) and we just ripped everything that attempted to thwart our extraction attempt. Our enemies didnt even manage to come onscreen most of the time. :pAh. Good times. Zarsky, Sprony and Sjonsson 3 Quote
Pampers Posted July 5, 2015 Report Posted July 5, 2015 Spent waay to much time plaing Ark: Survival Evolved now that performance is better. We made a hidden base that lasted a week without being raided, but eventually got rekt. Now we are building a new base on top of a huge rock Some pics from my adventures AlexM, Sjonsson, FMPONE and 1 other 4 Quote
TheOnlyDoubleF Posted July 5, 2015 Report Posted July 5, 2015 Now playing World of Warships! The game is quite fun and very addictive. But i find it easy and also no enough complex. I remember the good old Battlestation games where you had to manage a whole boat army, and planes and submarines, there were gameplay to repair you ships etc. Here, everything is just about aiming and firing. It's still very good, but i'd like it more complex. And objectives on the islands to destroy or to protect would be cool 'cause what we've got here is deathmatch, capture the point and it's modified mode of domination. Quote
AlexM Posted July 5, 2015 Report Posted July 5, 2015 Dont starve. Or should i say i'm watching my partner play don't starve. Really addicted at first but now I'm struggling to see if there's an endgame. TheOnlyDoubleF 1 Quote
