Sentura Posted September 19, 2012 Report Posted September 19, 2012 mfw anime models add replay value to a mod. Quote
Algor Posted September 19, 2012 Report Posted September 19, 2012 Some neat polish things I noticed last night; - Crowbar has blood splats applied to it (don't think I remember HL2 having this and I just replayed it last week) - A zombie decomposed (like a balloon losing all its air) after I killed it.. pretty awesome. Although I tried to watch for this again and didn't see it so maybe it was just a bug that convinced me it was a real thing. What in the hell have they done with crouch jump? It takes me a dozen tries to get through a window. Quote
JeanPaul Posted September 19, 2012 Report Posted September 19, 2012 All the weapons get splatter on them and we have touched the crouch jump one bit. Quote
Sentura Posted September 20, 2012 Report Posted September 20, 2012 funny, i was thinking of taking a screenshot of that exact area. looking into the distance you can actually see that if they had been more bold, they could have made flat plains and it would still have worked. Quote
FMPONE Posted September 20, 2012 Report Posted September 20, 2012 Unduly harsh video imo. Everything he says is true, it's his tone I take issue with... his comparisons go towards games with millions of dollar budgets, which is fine for learning, but if you're that much of a douche that you can't see this is in actuality a mod, then you shouldn't be reviewing it in the first place. Not to mention, it's conceivable that as a mod the flaws could all improve, and his joyless/dismissive tone gets a bit annoying as the video drags on for that reason. Quote
Erratic Posted September 20, 2012 Report Posted September 20, 2012 "Every weapon in the roster was enjoyable to use and had an impressive level of feedback" Weapons in Half-Life a high point, now I've heard it all. Quote
c0w Posted September 20, 2012 Report Posted September 20, 2012 I've been enjoying it a lot lately, it's the first game this year to make me giggle. c0a0 in particular. I don't know if I'll ever get back that first transit ride, but the environments have really gotten a nice treatment from Source. [and the wtf grate with the first barney broke the suspense for me for a moment. must be titanium... ] I'm currently on Residue Processing and it's so sweet. In particular the fast trips underwater, the traps, and that vertical drop where you need to scale down the pipes. You really do get into a different mode during some points in the game. I also love how as you travel along, certain enemies just disappear for a long time. It's just all so fucking well done. I just started thinking about that Mapcorian's article on RPS and... With an FPS, when you've taken away shooting, the only damn thing left that matters is level design. Gordon doesn't need to talk, shit, you don't even need any characters. Not when the environment becomes the central antagonist of your story. BMRF is all the character you need. Kudos to the mappers for doing such a great job on restoring the legendary Valve maps. My 2c. Quote
c0w Posted September 20, 2012 Report Posted September 20, 2012 Just to elaborate. Getting stuck down a hole in most games: GODDAMNIT WHAT IS THIS SHIT Getting stuck down a hole in Half-Life: OH MY GOD WHAT DOES IT MEAN? Quote
Sentura Posted September 20, 2012 Report Posted September 20, 2012 btw whats the next step for the BMS team? remaking hl2 in source? Quote

That's how i felt about this review. Criticism stops to be constructive when you go on and on rubbing in the shortcomings that are to be expected exactly because the game wasn't made by a huge team of professionals. At that point it's just douchyness^10. Looks like the community tore him a new one tho so time to move on Quote

Yeah watched the first 4 minutes, didn't really get where he was coming at. a. who died against the marines? They are fucking piss, I can only assume the guy hasn't played many FPS's (I only died to the tanks). And the bit with the flares at the start was probably one of the best improvements you guys did, so I have no idea what he is complaining about there. Quote
selmitto Posted September 20, 2012 Report Posted September 20, 2012 I agree that this video is a really bad and unfair review. I just watched 7 minutes of it, I couldn't watch it completely because he didn't say anything constructive at all. He just kept pointing the weaknesses and some things that were his own (and weird) opinion instead of pointing the achievements that the Black Mesa team accomplished. It's like he couldn't see at all the beauty that the team achieved in this Mod. He said he had performance issues and even compared that to "powerpoint presentations". What a douche. and to reinforce: Criticism stops to be constructive when you go on and on rubbing in the shortcomings that are to be expected exactly because the game wasn't made by a huge team of professionals. Pericolos0 Posted September 20, 2012 Report Posted September 20, 2012 I'm so amazed by the amount of work that went into this, it's fucking phenomenal. Fuck the critics, there's so much more polish in this game than most AAA releases. Quote
smn_fhs Posted September 20, 2012 Report Posted September 20, 2012 I`ll second what Bram said. Really impressive for a mod and I`m enjoying it a ton, so many good memories when playing! Quote
