Grinwhrl Posted September 15, 2012 Report Posted September 15, 2012 I haven't even gotten to the test chamber yet and I absolutely love it! The amount of work put into it so far is more than I expected. Brings back so many memories! Quote
penE Posted September 15, 2012 Report Posted September 15, 2012 Wow, that was intense, enjoyed every second of it. All those beautiful textures and tiny little details, and there were some extremely good looking rooms here and there . Only part that didn't felt that polished was surface tension, with some pretty lame spots like this beauty here: Also, I was really looking forward to that dam level, which didn't turn out to be that great, but whatever, the overall experience was amazing and especially in end with lambda core it became super awesome again . D3ads Posted September 15, 2012 Report Posted September 15, 2012 Cocksticks, I was about to play it when I realised I hadn't installed SDK 2007, another 2 hour wait... FUUUUUUU Quote
e-freak Posted September 15, 2012 Report Posted September 15, 2012 A lot of people probably won't even pick up on the changes, it's been so long since they played the original — like me. I think it's mostly about capturing the essence of HL1 and it sounds like that's been accomplished. Have entire bits been skipped out or is everything more or less there, even if modified? Blastpit was a good bit shorter if I recall the original correctly. But the overall feeling is that it's all there and the key moments are all preserved and polished up. Quote
Sentura Posted September 15, 2012 Report Posted September 15, 2012 in office complex at the moment, love everything about it. i never really thought about how dull the original was in some areas, and how they really spiced it up. super impressed. the changes are really good, i love what they did with the "secret" areas spatially! the one gripe i have is that guiding light is nowhere to be found. as a result i'm trying every door just in case. i give it 67 out of 29 hardcores Quote
Mazy Posted September 15, 2012 Report Posted September 15, 2012 Just finished it. Not just the best single player mod to date; it's one of the best games of the year. Truly an astonishing achievement, you BMS guys should be very very proud. Now, Xen? O_O Quote
PhilipK Posted September 15, 2012 Report Posted September 15, 2012 I'm only in the very beginning but jeez, this is so awesome. So far the quality of things overall beat a lot of new big titles. It's just very well put together! Enjoying it very much and brings back a ton of memories (probably played through hl1 8 times or so ) Quote
Skacky Posted September 15, 2012 Report Posted September 15, 2012 I'm at the end of Surface Tension, and so far it's a blast. Well worth the wait, definitely. Two things though: - There is a HUGE balance issue throughout the game, especially with the HECU marines. I play on medium and get absolutely slaughtered by the marines most of the times. An example: I had 100 health and 100 armor at the end of Questionable Ethics , and even with that I had to revert to easy because I got my ass kicked like 10 times. When I went on easy, I lost like 25 health points and had 50 armor left. - Lots of random crashes from Questionable Ethics to where I am. I never experienced any crashes before. I love love love the new Bullsquid, by the way. Quote
Seldoon182 Posted September 15, 2012 Report Posted September 15, 2012 Cocksticks, I was about to play it when I realised I hadn't installed SDK 2007, another 2 hour wait... FUUUUUUU That's was the same to me ahaha! The mod is the neat that's sometime I can't remind me what to do or what's going to happen! Quote
D3ads Posted September 15, 2012 Report Posted September 15, 2012 I know it's cliché, but I've got One word... wow. I spent an hour just walking around the Anomalous Materials Lab, throwing things at people, spoiling their lunch and just generally exploring the environment. I love how all the dialogue from before is there without little to no changes and more bolted onto it like when you speak to one npc, another will make a comment in the conversation as well. The graphical improvements are breathtaking, there are some bland textures here and there but nothing that really distracts from the atmosphere. I liked how if you returned to areas in the HEV suit, more dialogue took place. and finally... female scientists! I lolled at the roflcopter reference and the comic con rpg meme talk. Anyone else used the alarm repeatedly at the reception desk? Thought that was never gonna end! You'd best get like a missile and cruise Not even at Office Complex yet, I've got a Hell of a ride ahead of me I'll bet Quote
Sentura Posted September 15, 2012 Report Posted September 15, 2012 finished on a rail just now, everything is still very amazing, but i only really noticed how different the music is from half life 2 music when i noticed that there was a track that was REALLY hl2ish during power up. also, gargantuan death animation = best shit ever. when the music is playing it's kind of defeating the atmosphere because it's so loud you can't even hear your own shots (or others shooting you). syver Posted September 16, 2012 Report Posted September 16, 2012 this game is amazing but what do i do here??? how do i get past this crate edit: ??? Quote
e-freak Posted September 16, 2012 Report Posted September 16, 2012 is that the scene with the electrified fence on the other side? if so: shoot the wooden blank that keeps the switch up on the other side of the fence Quote
syver Posted September 16, 2012 Report Posted September 16, 2012 there's no electrified fence. it's after this part: Quote
