-HP- Posted September 15, 2012 Report Posted September 15, 2012 Fuck this is amazing... Love the little things they did, like making you throw flares at the zombies in the begining. Quote
SOOPRcow Posted September 15, 2012 Report Posted September 15, 2012 Seriously, abso-fucking-lutely amazing. Quote
FMPONE Posted September 15, 2012 Report Posted September 15, 2012 The game just gets better and better as it goes on. Probably my main critique would be the sounds (the monsters really aren't very noisy or scary) and the HL1 levels themselves, they are confusing at times and require a lot of backtracking. Such impressive visuals and scripting though, really impressively realized. LOVED the hole burnt out in the wall by the lasers. I'm just past Unforseen Consequences, what a level that was! Quote
Grinwhrl Posted September 15, 2012 Report Posted September 15, 2012 You guys made me cave, downloading now! Quote
e-freak Posted September 15, 2012 Report Posted September 15, 2012 reached On A Rail, which has always been the shittiest Half-Life Level but I'm enjoying it so far. Overall its pretty amazing and feels true to the original and new at the same time. And it does a hell of a good job, highlighting why Half-Life had so much influence on the modern Shooters. Tiny nitpicks: The Zombie Sounds sound like some screaming in front of the mirror and the MP5 Animation and Sound Design doesn't feel so solid. My favorite MP5 is still the one from Counter Strike Source, which I think would have done the job better in terms of providing fun feedback. And last nitpick: The small dialog snippets aren't loud enough - I kept pushing the sound up whenever someone talked and then pushing it down again as soon as someone fired a weapon. None the less: great experience so far, outdone all my expectations! Quote
Sprony Posted September 15, 2012 Report Posted September 15, 2012 The overall ambiance is just great. We all know it's an older engine but it's impressive to see what they push it to. I keep hitting the F12 button. Questions: If you reload the Magnum, regardless of how many rounds you have left, it's always depicted as having a full cylinder. Was this the same in original Half Life (can't remember) or is this a bug? Or is this just how the gun works? Leaving a shell or something? Is it me, or is Gordon glued a bit to the floor if you try jumping around? In We've got hostiles, when you encounter the first Marine, you should be able to drop the container on him. The panel doesn't work for me. I had to kill him manually. Anyone else experienced this? Quote
e-freak Posted September 15, 2012 Report Posted September 15, 2012 the gun works like this and did the same in half-life and yeah, jumping feels weird - they enforce the duckjump, which is a bit weird, considering it makes every jump damn hard until you really get back into it. Quote

Vilham Posted September 15, 2012 Report Posted September 15, 2012 Great... in the vents after you escape the chopper for the first time I get a crash if I look a certain direction. There goes my playthrough of the game. Quote
Rick_D Posted September 15, 2012 Report Posted September 15, 2012 Great... in the vents after you escape the chopper for the first time I get a crash if I look a certain direction. There goes my playthrough of the game. restart the game a few times. i had various issues where loading a save file caused massive fps drops, and i had multiple crashes throughout, for no real reason. if that doesn't work then load the next map and cry less. i just finished playing it, and that is about 5 or 6 hours. not too bad at all considering the level of polish was pretty high throughout. very cool. very enjoyable. @ budddy: they changed a lot of stuff in huge ways, often for the better, so it's not like they've stuck to a rigid design. i understand that people probably just want to revisit areas they've been to before but then will they cry about the changes? and if they do then whatever, change everything and fuck 'em lollllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll Quote
Thrik Posted September 15, 2012 Report Posted September 15, 2012 A lot of people probably won't even pick up on the changes, it's been so long since they played the original — like me. I think it's mostly about capturing the essence of HL1 and it sounds like that's been accomplished. Have entire bits been skipped out or is everything more or less there, even if modified? Quote
Sprony Posted September 15, 2012 Report Posted September 15, 2012 It's more or less there. It's basically the same but with added parts. I must have finished the original dozens of times and although it's been a long time since, I'm not missing important parts. Most of it I remember and some of it is new. Quote
Skjalg Posted September 15, 2012 Author Report Posted September 15, 2012 A little late to the party, installing now. Looks like the installer is taking longer time than the actual download. wtf Quote
