Yeah never looked into it at all. I don't have any PC games to grab textures from, was just wondering if anyone puts them up anywhere.

No, and that's obviously illegal! :) Just buy the games, and do it yourself.

System Shock 2 and Thief 1 and 2 store their textures in .PCX format (ugh) in .CRF files, which you can just rename to .ZIP... Thief 1, for example, put everything in "\res\fam.crf"

EDIT: Oh, didn't see that you wanted to study current gen textures, haha... I guess the 64x64 16 color bitmaps won't really help you that much.

Are you kidding? Come on now.. think about it for a second...

Anyway you can download some of the Max Payne textures for free, they maybe old but there's still some good examples in there, just imagine them higher res.

Screenshots are your friends also btw, if you can't get data from the games you want to grab from. There's also 3D Ripper which will save all assets in a scene at the touch of button provided it's DX9 or above but not every title is supported.

valve's games have some of the best texture work out there, and it's all accessible with their sdk. You can download UDK also and check out the textures from those packages (even though I think those textures aren't that great :P). Most games also just save their textures as dds files in their source folders, really easy to access.

And there's always.. you know, playing the games and paying attention. You don't learn much from just looking at textures, you need to know how they interact with the game's environments.

Hey I made some of those textures in UDK (http://www.caponeart.com/SLS_Unreal3_map_04.jpg) :XD: I don't really agree that looking at textures while playing in the game is as effective for studying as looking at the original flat where you can really go in and study details such as edgewear. In the game it's usually downsized and maybe the lighting is affecting it, plus you can't study the spec/normal maps.
