Chimeray Posted November 22, 2010 Report Posted November 22, 2010 I am in the midst of sending emails to different studios for my internship but got commented by some fellow students that hotmail adresses aren't really prefered and might even get blocked by some spamfilters... I thought you guys, since a lot of you are seasoned professionals, could help me with this? Should I just make a gmail mail adress and use that, or stick with my hotmail one? Does it matter, or does it not? Bullshit or not...? Thx! Quote
-HP- Posted November 22, 2010 Report Posted November 22, 2010 It's probably bullshit yeah, but you never know what those spam filter will filter. Quote
Minos Posted November 22, 2010 Report Posted November 22, 2010 I can't believe people still use hotmail... Get a gmail or even better, get your own domain (its pretty cheap). Quote
Skjalg Posted November 22, 2010 Report Posted November 22, 2010 I'm actually thinking of switching from my hotmail to my gmail now and going away from MSN and over to Gtalk/skype forever. I'm hating on the new MSN look and it constantly spams me with bots trying to show me their awesome webcam. Quote
e-freak Posted November 22, 2010 Report Posted November 22, 2010 Got rid of hotmail 10 years ago. I don't think anyone filters it out but it's just a matter of usability that I stick with GMail. Quote
kleinluka Posted November 22, 2010 Report Posted November 22, 2010 hotmail does get filtered out from time to time. anyway, you don't wanna take any chances when applying for jobs. just get a gmail addy like the rest of the world and move on with your (now much better) life Quote
Bunglo Posted November 22, 2010 Report Posted November 22, 2010 ... or yahoo (yes, they still exist.) Quote
Chimeray Posted November 22, 2010 Author Report Posted November 22, 2010 Hmm, better safe than sorry... I'll update my website and email then. Thanks! Quote
e-freak Posted November 23, 2010 Report Posted November 23, 2010 yahoo is at same level as hotmail imho Problem is with these two very old mail-services that just due their age they are the most often target of spam-systems. Quote
Bunglo Posted November 23, 2010 Report Posted November 23, 2010 I don't see anything different about Gmail than Yahoo (I have emails on both), I didn't think that many people used it to be honest. You also need to submit your phone number to them for "verification" reasons just to have a new address now... Ridiculous in my opinion. Regardless, I would personally get my own domain that goes along with my folio site. Quote
Thrik Posted November 23, 2010 Report Posted November 23, 2010 Not sure about Yahoo, but one nice bonus of Gmail is you can set up a (free) business account which lets you use your own domain for emails if you have one. For example, my various @ryanjohnwilliams.com addresses are all accessed through Gmail and are entirely hosted by Google — not just forwarded. Means you get excellent performance, resources, webmail client, etc for free. Quote
Zeta Posted November 23, 2010 Report Posted November 23, 2010 I would personally recommend getting a domain name and using it's email address. You can then even have it forward to another account, such as Gmail, If you would like to keep using your personal email address. If your personal website happens to be your portfolio then this method has the benefit of informing your potential employer that you have a website they can visit every time they email you. Quote
Zacker Posted November 23, 2010 Report Posted November 23, 2010 I don't know the exact status of how it is, but it would make very good sense if companies just blocked hotmail as it's only spammers and people who haven't left that nineties that are using that service anyway. Quote
mjens Posted November 23, 2010 Report Posted November 23, 2010 I haven't seen any hotmail account since years. Most of the time people have own domian mails or use gmail... Quote
