My cousin edited this movie that appeared at Sundance earlier this year. Debuts in the US later this month. It's about the US Muslim punk scene...adapted from the book of the same name. I think there was a documentary (?) about it but this film is a fictional adaptation. I basically saw the film during the edit process in my cousin's office, and while I had never known about the Muslim punk music scene before, I found the movie very very interesting. Anyway, just sharing.

"Muslim Punks"? How do these two fit together? Awesome, I gotta watch that one...somehow, some way, because I've doubts that it will make its way to a local cinema here.

It might not make it there, but who knows. It finished post production in fall 2009, went to Sundance in Jan 2010 and is just now getting a US premier. I was skeptical when I first read the script a couple years ago but it is based on a real music movement that not that many people know about...really sheds a different view on Islam that I never knew anything about.

CNN International had a piece about muslim rap groups in the middle east shaking things up there too a few months back, glad to see those guys get some recognition

I remember I saw a documentary about muslim death metal (I think it was in Iran).

It didnt turn out well.
