AlexM Posted August 20, 2010 Report Posted August 20, 2010 yeah uncharted 2 is freickin nuts started playing dragons quest 9, I would call it a charming game for lack of a better word Quote
Jetsetlemming Posted August 20, 2010 Report Posted August 20, 2010 Beat Infamous 2. I was hoping for a new game+ mode, considering they put in so much incentive to play twice, but instead I get free roam, when I've already done everything except two hidden package missions off in the middle of nowhere. Think I'll hold off playing through Evil for some time later. Got RFG to beat, and a friend and I are playing RE5 coop tonight. Quote
D3ads Posted August 21, 2010 Author Report Posted August 21, 2010 ":27e8mhw6]Just started playing Uncharted 2, one word... holyshit!! Told yaaaa! Most beautiful game ever made bro! Wait till you get to nepal, zomg! /fanboy mode off I'm there now.. zomg indeed! I'd seen the bit where the building you're in gets bombed, but I didn't realise it actually falls apart and collapses with you inside it! I have to disagree with people that Crysis is the best looking game ever, Uncharted 2 easily beats it for it's massive attention to detail and huge variation in design. Quote
Jetsetlemming Posted August 21, 2010 Report Posted August 21, 2010 Game graphics, you say? *obligatory Far Cry 2 reference* Far Cry 2 is the best looking game because not only is it pretty as fuck, you can be snobby about liking it because most people don't!! Quote
-HP- Posted August 21, 2010 Report Posted August 21, 2010 Jetsetlemming, I meant art direction! FC2 doesn't even begin to scratch the the level of Art direction and variety on the environments of Uncharted2. (This is of course, my opinion! ) Quote
Jetsetlemming Posted August 21, 2010 Report Posted August 21, 2010 I'd post some examples of what I find to be top notch art in Far Cry 2 but the game doesn't screenshot well at all (the grass shadows in stills ends up looking like a bunch of artifacts), and recording FRAPs makes my framerate pretty unhappy. I find FC2's environmental art, stuff like massive plains of grass with every blade moving and casting a shadow, and rivers and waterfalls and forests, to be unmatched, even by Crysis's jungles. I only played Uncharted 2 in demo form, and then on an SDTV, so I'm not in any position to really compare the two though. Quote
-HP- Posted August 21, 2010 Report Posted August 21, 2010 Mmm, yeah i understand that, still i think you might be missing my point mate. I don't mean if the leafs casts accurate shadows, if they wave with the wind, have sub-surface scattering, parallax in the floor, bla bla, I don't mean any of that tech stuff. That's pretty much been there done that for me in Crysis. I meant ART Direction! I meant the smart use of colors, varied and stylized environments (from interiors to exteriors, from a snowy mountain to a city, from jungles to dungeons, etc), detailed and hand crafted geometry and textures so they fit the art directors vision, and so on! D3ads Posted August 21, 2010 Author Report Posted August 21, 2010 Btw Lazarevic is supposed to be Serbian right? But the crates that the mercs use for supplies read "опасность" (Russian for "danger") whereas the Serbian word is "опасност" ...yeah yeah I know no one cares Quote
-HP- Posted August 21, 2010 Report Posted August 21, 2010 ah ah, really? And yeah, he is, after a short google search: http://uncharted.wikia.com/wiki/Zoran_Lazarevic Quote

I think I'm trying to get at the same thing. The technical stuff helps the illusion, but the design of the mountains and rivers and shanty towns and how they fit together and look. It's like the same way KL2 treats Shanghai, I guess. Far Cry 2's illusion of Africa helps to further magnify that guilty feeling they're trying to instill in you for being an asshole profiteering on tribal warfare and the lawless nature of the region. That illusion completely goes away if you play some nice up tempo music while playing and instead it's just an awesome "Let's shoot people and burn down plains and forests!" sim. Quote

Steppenwolf Posted August 21, 2010 Report Posted August 21, 2010 Picked up Gothic 3 for 9.99 Euro yesterday. Already regret it. What an god awful game. Even after years of patches and community patches it is full of bugs and glitches that jump right into your face. The gfx are ugly and the frame rate super low, the combat is beyond stupid. It's like someone took the after birth from Oblivion and made a game out of it. Quote
