Jetsetlemming Posted October 25, 2010 Report Posted October 25, 2010 ME2 retroactively makes ME1 a bad game, that's how much they improved on it. I can't go back to ME1 now at all. I tried and was all like "UGH THIS INVENTORY SYSTEM AND NO VANGUARD CHARGE ABILITY" and quit. Quote
-HP- Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 Loads of people don't agree with that, since they chopped off a lot of RPG elements in ME2. Quote
ElectroSheep Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 A friends lent m Metroid Other M and seriously... the gameplay is a mess !!! I can't play it. Quote
Erratic Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 Realize the combat is mashing the dpad and fire button and all will be clear. Quote

I dig RPG elements but ME2's atrophied RPG elements are better than ME1's super bad shooter elements. Tradeoff was worth it IMO. Quote
Taylor Posted October 27, 2010 Report Posted October 27, 2010 I don't see how anyone would prefer Mass Effect 1 over Mass Effect 2. ME1 was certainly a good game, but ME2's changes were all for the better and most of the "RPG elements" removed where just streamlining (a term kind of abused usually), like walking around an empty height map for hours - a change Bethesda should look at. ME1 had better storyline, better soundtrack, a better ending and a better villain. ME2 is an awesome game, the combat and weapon upgrades are vastly improved but the ending is bad and I also miss exploration. Instead of removing exploration missions altogether Bioware should have improved them! Really miss that lil tank in ME2... Quote
Erratic Posted October 27, 2010 Report Posted October 27, 2010 like walking around an empty height map for hours - a change Bethesda should look at. The best part of Fallout. I don't know what it has if not that. Quote

Taylor Posted October 27, 2010 Report Posted October 27, 2010 ME1 had better storyline, better soundtrack, a better ending and a better villain. I agree with these, but I think ME2 is much further ahead in terms of gameplay. But one thing I did not miss was randomly driving around terrian for hours looking for rocks to click on. Agreed, exploring the wasteland is great fun. Although I'm confused by why you say empty, Taylor; Are you referring to all of fallout or just certain sections? I'm thinking more of Oblivion and Morrowind, where I only went in the open world if I couldn't help it and mainly spent my time there jumping forward to level up skills. I never played Fallout 3 much further than Megaton, maybe it's completely different. Quote

I disagree completely. Morrowind had fantastic open world content that was varied in both theme and landscape. I remember the sense of adventure this game would give me. I would stock up potions and items before I decided to travel across the map and follow whatever path it led me. The feeling I got from it was unlike any other game. I didn't bother with the quests until much later. As for Oblivion, on the other hand, I agree. Quote
dux Posted October 27, 2010 Report Posted October 27, 2010 Morrowind was the nuts, Oblivion was good, just not as good as it could have been. Fallout on the other hand I think was not too bad at all; certainly a step up from oblivion. Quote

Instead of removing exploration missions altogether Bioware should have improved them! Really miss that lil tank in ME2... I agree they could've improved the exploration instead of dumping it but I enjoyed exploring Omega, Illium, etc. though. Also I think ME2's writing is FAR better. The aliens were fleshed out, especially the Asari (they were just Mary Sue elf-analogs in ME1) and Krogan (They were just Wrex + some cannon fodder), great moments like meeting Conrad Werner in the Illium bar, and fewer really embarrassingly written things. Like, ever find the one ME1 Codex entry on the Asari ninja warrior people? God fucking awful. Quote

Fallout on the other hand I think was not too bad at all; certainly a step up from oblivion. it was still nothing compared to the old games. the same goes for new vegas (which, incidentally, is a step up from fallout (thank you, obsidian's art department!!!)). the worst thing about new vegas though, is that they changed the perks and skills you can get, how they work, and how they skill up (tag skills don't level up by themselves, which essentially makes them... regular skills?)
