Bunglo
I almost read Dark's spoiler! Phew, that was a close one. I haven't watch it yet and I'm not ganna but damn, am I the only one who thinks the warm and cool tones on the white of the buildings in the preview looks increadible?!? Vivi, it would be awesome if the art team was able to hook up with polycount or cghub for an art overview/ breakdown after this game goes gold. -HP-

Many of our level artists already are active members of Polycount. If they can do something like this, I'm sure they will -HP-
dux
Who the fuck chose the game cover art for this? It's fucking TERRIBLE. blackdog and syver

syver
i have to agree. i have really high expectations for this game and i'm sure the game will go beyond those expectations, but that cover art is like wrapping a diamond in shit. it's doing a huge disservice to the game and everyone who made it. -HP-

Furyo
Ken has discussed the choice of the cover to death. There will be alternate covers for everyone to download so you gamers that already love the game and want an art piece for the cover get exactly that. This generic one is a marketing oriented one so more people are even interested in picking it up.

Which is the definition of selling out. I guess it can be "justified" sometimes depending on how and in what extent it's done, but imho i think he should have gone with his integrity on this. Thrik
A strange correlation has been drawn by some between 'sells well' and 'has no imagination whatsoever'. It's perfectly possible to produce an attractive cover that also draws in the mainstream. A generic cover isn't going to suddenly make the game fly off the shelves, people are more likely to respond to one that's genuinely beautiful rather than following a mantra of 'tits, sparks, guns' (or whatever formula is in play). Every single bit of marketing will dispute that. Do you think we did not make this decision after having done our research? Puddy

I guess that's what he means Francois, why are you protecting it so much dude? research will always boil down to one thing: the stuff that sells the most, the stuff that appeals the most to the masses, the stuff that gets the biggest attention, etc, etc. That was the problem here, "over-research". Since we all here know that Bioshock infinite wont just be a shooter, it wont be just a "ordinary" game, it will stand out among everything out there at the moment, and that cover just doesn't sell that fact. It will make the game blend with the others in the shelves. I realize that that cover might appeal to those that don't know the IP because it embraces the genre that sells like hot cakes in our industry, the action packed first person shooters, and it's so obvious for us that cover is trying to get a slice of that market it feels wrong to us. I just wish that instead of trying to blend in, it tried to be unique, which is the new "trend" I think and you start to see some really cool stuff out there that stands out. Want an example? Far Cry 3 awesome cover, featuring not the cool guy of the game but the vilan. Which is EXACTLY what Bioshock 1 did too, Big Daddy on the cover with the city on the background. Furyo
I don't defend the cover, I defend the decision.
