Beck Posted February 10, 2015 Report Posted February 10, 2015 Nobody likes Skyler, Sprony. Nobody. Keep with it, you won't be disappointed I'll watch Better Call Saul tonight. Looking forward to it! Sprony and TheOnlyDoubleF 2 Quote
Mazy Posted February 10, 2015 Author Report Posted February 10, 2015 Saw the first episode of Better Call Saul, was okay, like most series then it'll probably take a few episodes before it really gets going. Still can't shake the feeling of it being a bit pointless tho, but I'm probably just afraid that it will in some strange way make me love Breaking Bad less. Quote
Puddy Posted February 10, 2015 Report Posted February 10, 2015 Pointless? How so? Saul is an interesting character and I look forward to seeing his "transformation" in the same way we did Walter's. will2k 1 Quote
Mazy Posted February 10, 2015 Author Report Posted February 10, 2015 I donno, maybe I'm just not as big a fan of him as other people. I mean I like him in the context of Breaking Bad where he brought some humour when it might often be pretty dire and serious, though he was also a character that you generally felt a bit sorry for, but like I've said before then as a character from BB then it doesn't feel like a no-brainer to make a show about him either. I guess my point is that just because it's a spinoff of BB then for me at least it still has to stand on it's own feet and earn it rather than just being full on fan service, though that said then nothing so far from the first episode indicates that it won't be able to do that. Erratic Posted February 11, 2015 Report Posted February 11, 2015 There's something about suburbs in the desert that depresses the shit out of me. I don't know if I can take another series set in that place. dux 1 Quote
dux Posted February 11, 2015 Report Posted February 11, 2015 I feel the same way. It really added to the show but I never plan on re-watching it. It was a fantastic one off experience for me. Damn was it miserable. Quote
will2k Posted February 11, 2015 Report Posted February 11, 2015 I watched the first 2 episodes of Better call Saul; they're good in their own terms regardless of the "remote" link to Breaking Bad. And I agree with Puddy: Jimmy currently is a "different" character from Saul, the one we know from breaking bad and it would be interesting to watch his metamorphosis along the episodes. Quote

I hear you. I really disliked him at first. But he grows on you. Kinda like a puppy. He keeps pissing on your carpet but he's just so funny you forgive him anyway. Quote
Thrik Posted February 16, 2015 Report Posted February 16, 2015 I watched the first two episodes, #3 is out today I believe. I really enjoyed it, and it's definitely not as light-hearted as I was expecting. With Saul bringing a lot of the comic relief to Breaking Bad, I assumed this would play off of that — but so far it's actually not very far removed from Breaking Bad in terms of tone and drama, particularly that show's earlier episodes which saved a lot of the seriously hard-hitting darkness until much later. I'm very interested to see whether or not Better Call Saul goes down the road of Breaking Bad and becomes extremely dark, or if it avoids going that far. A familiar character who appeared at the end of episode one brought a particularly tense edge to the show, immediately taking me back to when Breaking Bad 'got real'. I didn't really appreciate in Breaking Bad that he was really just a persona/shtick, although looking back there were obvious signs that there was a different man lurking beneath. Seeing a good man lose his morality out of desperation is definitely revisiting the themes of Breaking Bad, but it's evidently going to be handled in a very different way. Basically, a great start. I'm hooked already, and am really looking forward to seeing how the hybrid approach of this show plays out. As was made obvious from the very first scenes, this series (which has already been renewed for a second season by the way) takes place both before and after Breaking Bad using time jumps. I'm just as excited to see where the post-BB Saul ends up, and it adds an extra level of tension to the show because obviously Saul couldn't die if it were purely a prequel — but anything goes in the post-BB world. FMPONE Posted February 16, 2015 Report Posted February 16, 2015 I agree the show is really really good. But I'm wondering how much of the show is going to be ruined or limited by the fact that we know how it ends. I can't stop thinking about that... Quote

But I'm wondering how much of the show is going to be ruined or limited by the fact that we know how it ends. I can't stop thinking about that... While we do know how it all "ends", I do believe this show is all about the journey, not the destination as I mentioned in my previous post. Seeing the minute details (which Vince Giligan mastered in breaking Bad) of the transformation of Jimmy to Saul will be the real show. I wouldn't worry about the show being "ruined" by the fact that we already know what will be of Saul in the end ; the first 2 episodes are a clear indication that it's goona be quite a journey ahead. FMPONE Posted February 17, 2015 Report Posted February 17, 2015 Fuck. Episode 3 is so good. I hate you and your talent Vince Gilligan. will2k 1 Quote
FrieChamp Posted February 17, 2015 Report Posted February 17, 2015 I watched the first 2 episodes and I'm loving it. Like in BB, the (more or less) innocent character that's desperately trying to make ends meet and is getting more and more corrupted can be seen here, too The cinematography is great - especially in the first episode. I'm hooked! FMPONE and will2k 2 Quote
Beck Posted February 25, 2015 Report Posted February 25, 2015 After the first episode didn't really grip me I gave the second one a chance and actually loved it. I was actually laughing in RL during the scene with Tuco and Saul negotiating with those skaters lives which I don't normally do when watching something alone. Think I'll watch episode 3 tonight Quote
FMPONE Posted February 25, 2015 Report Posted February 25, 2015 Hyped to watch Episode 3 tonight as well Quote
