Taylor Swift Posted December 7, 2004 Report Posted December 7, 2004 On e3 video demos we saw awsome half life 2 gameplay.. One of the subjects now is the 2 maybye removed chapters : Docks and Borealis. So far i know there was a e3 demo on a hl2 chapter called "Docks" where you start on some bridge near the coast or something. Remember now? I only have a question now. Where is the chapter in hl2 with that level? Did they remove it? Because it was leaked before to the unlegal beta. I think this level was the best ever made, and suddenly they removed it. But next thing is the Ice breaker level Borealis : Also the ship level (leaked in beta) After some storm you wake up near the coast and the people on the ship saves your life. "" this is what i have heard"" So i'm very confused why Valve Team did remove those 2 chapters. They would really kick ass. But now.. And..This is what i found in my half-life2/Models props directory using the Hammer editor and searching for models: props_docs (folder containing many models) Props_borealis (some barrels and other stuff from the Borealis ship.) That means there are props for the levels but the chapters were removed. Why Valve, Why? Quote
ctswin Posted December 7, 2004 Report Posted December 7, 2004 to finish the game in a reasonable time? Quote
madcow Posted December 7, 2004 Report Posted December 7, 2004 the ship was going to be the opening of the game.. they changed it tho.. im assuming the docks were right after the ship, which would account for the removal of that chapter Quote
von*ferret Posted December 7, 2004 Report Posted December 7, 2004 a pity, those truly do look amazing. Quote
Mazy Posted December 7, 2004 Report Posted December 7, 2004 Lots of reasons probably Things change when you do games, they probably figured that it wasnt much Fun to play, used it to show off the game, or that it just didnt fit into the story, wutevr Those areas did look cool tho Also, in the leak (which is shamefully checked out) there were a bunch of levels on board of a ship, where there was a shitload of fire, zombies and combine everywhere. It was very early, but it didnt really look like it would be much fun even if it had been developed further. Also the start of the game, with the train entering the station is cooler i think, a little homage to the start of hl1 Quote
Schmung Posted December 7, 2004 Report Posted December 7, 2004 They might welll re-appear in the 'deleted scenes' type expansion that the rumour mill has been muttering about of late. Quote
Adam Hawkins Posted December 7, 2004 Report Posted December 7, 2004 And what happened to that glowy blue tentacle thingy that speared the Combine guard in one of the vids? Quote
JynxDaddy Posted December 7, 2004 Report Posted December 7, 2004 Why do people keep on asking why stuff was cut from the final game? They might release these maps in the 'expansions', valve dont need to do any real work anymore, with the map contest and such. Quote
Spellbinder Posted December 7, 2004 Report Posted December 7, 2004 to finish the game in a reasonable time? omg pls ctswin, lets get our money spent worth. and i just have to have this game D: Spellbinder. Quote
KungFuSquirrel Posted December 7, 2004 Report Posted December 7, 2004 Content is deleted from/changed in games all the time. There's tons of stuff I remember seeing in original Half-Life shots that never made the cut into the final game (as well as the unused AI models). Look at how Ravenholm evolved from the TrapTown E3 demo into what it is now, for instance. Schmung and Jynx make a good point - some of the content may have been not good enough, but other bits may just have taken too much time to do. They have the content already, so provided none of it sucked (which is also entirely possible - no one's perfect ), they could easily fix it up and use it for an expansion. I really would like to see that boat level/chapter... Quote

GrayFox Posted December 7, 2004 Report Posted December 7, 2004 I thinks this issue has been discussed in two different threads already... just give it a rest. Quote
Taylor Posted December 7, 2004 Report Posted December 7, 2004 They removed these areas because they didn't play well and replaced them with another 5 miles of boring Boat/Buggy driving. Quote
Spellbinder Posted December 7, 2004 Report Posted December 7, 2004 Sorry im new here. First time in almost 3 years. If i would have suspected it i would have done a search first. Spellbinder. Quote
