mike-0 Posted December 7, 2004 Report Posted December 7, 2004 Im getting a geforce 6800 GT for christmas. I currently have a geforce 5200 FX. How long does it take to get one of these things installed? A few hours? How hard is it to install? I put USB 2.0 ports into my computer and got them working... is installing graphics cards harder? My PC is a Sony Vaio PCV-RZ36G, by the way. Quote
Duff-e Posted December 7, 2004 Report Posted December 7, 2004 it takes all of 3 minutes to install a new graphics card (physically)....drivers and shit on the other hand might take you a half hour...depending on any problems it will most likely take you longer since apparently this is your first time installing a graphics card btw when i read your post i laughed, not because what you said was dumb but because it was cute Quote
Fletch Posted December 7, 2004 Report Posted December 7, 2004 1) take out old card 2) put in new card 3) start computer 4) windows will be like "oh shit, that old card not there any more. buhleet it. and it will be gone" 5) windows will be like "hot shitz man, new toy. new toy. and will ask you for your drivers" 6) pop in cd, follow instructions 7) go download new drivers off the interweb to update everything. Or the best way... 1. Go to add/remove programs in Control Panel and see if your old video card drivers are listed. If so, uninstall them. If not, right click My Computer and select "properties". Use the menu that pops up to locate "Device Manager". Click that and select your video card from the list (it might be refered to as "display adapter" or some such. Select it and click the "properties" button. Uninstall drivers from here. 2. Turn off your computer and swap out the old card for the new card. 3. windows will be like "hot shitz man, new toy. new toy. and will ask you for your drivers" 4. pop in cd, follow instructions 5. go download new drivers off the interweb to update everything Quote
