Granted about Crysis, but I'm not convinced that many people have HL2 Ep2 installed either. I would think that SP games tend to get uninstalled right after being completed. I agree however that Source would have suited this particular project quite nicely, I was a tad limited by the CryEngine when it came to designing puzzles.

Would be cool if there was a way to know how many people have which game installed on Steam though...

*crosses fingers, hoping that someone will call me a noob and tell me there's such a thing*

Anyway, the reason I moved to Crysis in the first place was that it wouldn't look obsolete for a good while so I could spend time creating custom content without the fear of being left being by the tech. 5 years on good ol' Max Payne 2 was enough, and HL2 was already quite old when I considered the engine to mod next. :v

I know it's not an accurate comparison because lots of people bought retail versions of Crysis, but:

I have 31 Steam friends who have Ep2 (and if it's not installed, it's 1 click and only a 5 minute wait since they already have most of the Source assets for other games)

in comparison, 3 Steam friends with Crysis... and 2 of those 3 have a Steam all-access pass thing and own 900 games so they don't really count.

Who's going to dig out the DVDs vs. clicking a button in Steam?

... not to diminish your achievement though, this looks great and I enjoyed reading the article as well.

It's true though, it's faster to download a source game when you've already got one installed, like TF2 or L4D. I understand your point Campaignjunkie, even though you might be biased by modding HL2 yourself (that can influence the games your steam friends own if you met these guys through the HL2 community for instance).

Anyway, I've created this project on the CryEngine and its getting a decent amount of downloads and positive feedback. Not mind-blowing, but enough to be worth the release, and that's what matters :)
