Minos Posted May 21, 2010 Report Posted May 21, 2010 Amazing presentation about what motivates people at work. I like the bit where he uses examples of people working on free stuff in their free time just to get technically better, which is exactly what us modders do Quote
-HP- Posted May 21, 2010 Report Posted May 21, 2010 cool, I saw this talk a while back without the animations seconded. Quote
Mazy Posted May 22, 2010 Report Posted May 22, 2010 Hah, cool animation and great point, altho I'd dare say that it's a no-brainer Quote
⌐■_■ Posted May 22, 2010 Report Posted May 22, 2010 yeah, very cool explaination but not exactly new (Maslow's hierarchy of needs anyone?). got to like the way it's brought to you though. Quote

Would you work without a pussy sexy chick as your boss? -Yes! Would you work without a salary? -Hell NO! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maslow%27s ... y_of_needs There is a stage on Maslow' irreal Theory (not going to talk about why it FAIL) that you are able to get without cash? Physiological: How you buy food/Water? How you pay a 20 bucks slut? Can you sleep well knowing you are without money to pay your bills? Tell me a stage that you dont need money to get it , even to have friends, family and self esteem you need money. It's all about money, unfortunatelly or not. Quote
Erratic Posted May 23, 2010 Report Posted May 23, 2010 Academia being wowed by obvious shit, news at 11. Quote
Duff-e Posted May 23, 2010 Report Posted May 23, 2010 Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs is destined to find a home here soon enough: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superseded_scientific_theories Unfortunately it's still taught to college freshman everywhere and accepted because it gives a plausible answer to a bad question. Minos Posted May 23, 2010 Author Report Posted May 23, 2010 It all comes down to age and life objects in my opinion. At my current age (and if I could choose) I'd rather make less but work on kickass and relevant projects, stuff that I could be proud of in the future, than to make a lot of money working on crap projects that everyone hates and be stuck on this shit forever. I'll leave the later to when I'm older, creatively worn out or have a family. Quote
-HP- Posted May 23, 2010 Report Posted May 23, 2010 Best things in life are free! Key to happiness? Is doing what you love at work. Days will fly by, and you'll be rewarded accordingly, cos since you're working on what you love and you're passionate for the results are bound to be great! What motivates me is my short term goals AND long term goals. What makes me get up at morning are my long term goals what keeps my going are my short term ones. There's nothing more satisfying that going home at night with a nice feeling of accomplishment of a nice day of work. Fortunately, for me both those short/long term goals are in perfect coordination and both flowing along on the same tide. For those who didn't get the message of the video and started babbling how you wouldn't even be able to fart in life without money, that is not the point of this thread nor of that video! The point is, you don't start waving around a bill and get peoples motivation, money is NOT what drives us, it's our freedom and our satisfaction. Quote
