Minos Posted May 19, 2010 Report Posted May 19, 2010 "You know, I never wanted to make you my bitch, not you, not them, not any of the other players and, most importantly, not any of my fans. Up until that ad, I felt I had a great relationship with the gamer and the game development community and that ad changed everything... I regret it and I apologise for it." http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/romer ... d-campaign Everyone should read Masters of Doom, best book i've read in years Quote
-HP- Posted May 19, 2010 Report Posted May 19, 2010 Everyone should read Masters of Doom, best book i've read in years That Oh and I luled when Romero said he didn't mind teaming up with Carmack again... Yeh, no wonder, Carmack is still kicking ass and he's better than ever while Romero hasn't shipped a game for years now. Oh well, I respect the guy though, he's the father of FPS and deathmatch so we all owe him! Quote
Gloglebag Posted May 19, 2010 Report Posted May 19, 2010 I was under the impression that ad was supposed to be corny. Quote
Mazy Posted May 19, 2010 Report Posted May 19, 2010 Everyone should read Masters of Doom, best book i've read in years Seconded...or, thirded? I have a print out of that ad on my office wall, you can say a lot about it in terms of it being bad taste and disrespectful, but it's almost gotten iconic by now. I bet it's the printed gaming ad that most gamers remember, for better or worse. Regarding Romero, then I've grown to really respect him as I've read more and more about him. Might be an underdog thing, which I'm always a sucker for, the fact that he went from being pretty much the biggest game designer name on the PC to designing mobile games. He definitely seems like a pretty cool guy once you ignore all the generic internet hate that usually surrounds his name. Not entirely sure what he's up to now, if it's still that MMO there was talk about, but part of me would love to see him return to the FPS scene with a big AAA title and actually be successful. I do however doubt that it would ever happen Quote

-HP- Posted May 19, 2010 Report Posted May 19, 2010 Is it even possible to buy it somewhere on the internet? I'd pay for that shit! ;O Quote
AlexM Posted May 20, 2010 Report Posted May 20, 2010 I still feel in regards to the design and art, Doom2 is still the best ID game (for singleplayer, multiplayer I give that to quakeworld). I'd love to John, John, Adrian and all the old team get together and make a game about demons, space marines, spooky sound effects etc Quote

Skacky Posted May 20, 2010 Report Posted May 20, 2010 Quake is my favorite, and Doom is slightly behind. This game (Quake heh) has a damn amazing atmosphere, terrifying and great monsters, intelligent level design, and this atmosphere is even greater when you play with the music (composed by Mr. Reznor). It's a shame they ditched the whole thing and did classic sci-fi stuff with Quake 2 (even if it's a good game and the Stroggs are pretty disturbing). Oh and yeah, give us another game about space marines and demons already. Quote
