insta Posted May 12, 2010 Report Posted May 12, 2010 ":3ntxvcvp]Thanks for the input guys! Just to make sure we are all on the same page, you guys want me to add more flash stuff to my site right? Erm... Yes, you need to have at least 3 more loaders that takes up to 10 minutes each to load, and finally when you get to the website itself it needs to have a even more non-friendly flash interface that no one knows how to use and struggles to see your portfolio! So yeah, we're NOT on the same page, did you even read the feedback that people posted? Along with very useful links with shitloads of information on how to make a neat and friendly online portfolio?! I don't think you did. I think it was a joke. Give him a break, he's from Portugal or something Quote
-HP- Posted May 12, 2010 Report Posted May 12, 2010 Yeah, or something. Well, in that case please ignore my post, I failed to spot the sarcasm in your words. Quote
ZensDeath Posted May 13, 2010 Author Report Posted May 13, 2010 No worries HP I failed to realize that I shouldn't make my portfolio site in flash till about the 8th or 9th post telling me not to use flash. Well on second thought, I might need a few more flash hating posts just to make sure. (<- sarcasm!) Anyways, I used flash to create my portfolio site because I know how to use flash. I'm not a web designer so any help you guys can give on getting my site switched over to a more user friendly design would be welcome. Quote
2d-chris Posted May 14, 2010 Report Posted May 14, 2010 honestly sometimes it amazes me how people judge your webdesign skills on this portfolio section more than the work your showing :/ Most people I know (including myself) who got a job in the industry had a few screenshots to show, maybe times are changing but unless your applying for a web designers position I wouldnt lose sleep over it. That being said, I got a pro to make my website and it payed off within a week of being online ;P Quote
Skjalg Posted May 14, 2010 Report Posted May 14, 2010 setting up some blog software and make it look like a decent portfolio shouldn't be that hard Quote
ZensDeath Posted May 19, 2010 Author Report Posted May 19, 2010 Hey guys, thanks for the input on the webpage. I decided to go with an html page with a java gallery. I have the basic layout of the main page done. Take a look and let me know what you guys think I should change. Thanks again. Quote
ZensDeath Posted August 9, 2010 Author Report Posted August 9, 2010 Hey Guys! I just updated my portfolio site. Let me know what you guys think. Also if there are any html guru's out there. I would greatly appreciate it if you guys can tell me why the bottom bar stays centered in Google Chrome and Firefox but it isn't centered in Internet Explorer. Thanks! http://www.jwrussell.com/ Zens. Quote
Psy Posted August 10, 2010 Report Posted August 10, 2010 We love you HP. It's okay. We forgive you. Anyway, the website is still laid out in a very unintuitive manner. You don't need a background image, you don't need iFrames, you don't need the thumbnails at the bottom and you don't need links to each individual project along the top of the page when you already have links to them in the main body. Everything is so excessive at the moment that I think you're trying too hard and, as a result, everything looks very messy and unappealing. When I look at it, I'm not drawn towards anything in particular, I just see a huge mass of text and images! I'd start it from scratch, to be honest. As people have recommended, you should use some blogging software like Wordpress. Oh, and you should read this thread as well. Quote
CrowbarSka Posted August 10, 2010 Report Posted August 10, 2010 From your CryEngine page: Various works created with the CryEngine Sandbox Editor, which were lost due to a virus. I don't think you should mention that. It's a negative point, which you should always avoid unless you can turn it into a positive. It's unlikely that anyone will specifically ask to play your CryEngine levels so there is no need to cover that base. Quote

ZensDeath Posted August 20, 2010 Author Report Posted August 20, 2010 Hey I updated the site again. Took some stuff out and tried to make it feel less cluttered. Let me know! http://www.jwrussell.com/ Quote
Nineaxis Posted August 20, 2010 Report Posted August 20, 2010 Make the links at the top a lighter color, shouldn't have to rollover them to read them (or even see they are there). And the screenshots bar at the bottom feels out of place (and it's not working for me, using Chrome). Most of your pages just have one or two sentences and then a huge blank space, why not merge content onto a single page instead of having two navs at the top and another one at the bottom when all the content could be in one place? Site seems a bit too thinly distributed. Quote
ZensDeath Posted March 14, 2011 Author Report Posted March 14, 2011 Hey guys, back again. I noticed that my website did not work well with Internet Explorer so I went ahead and cut down the website and did something real basic. let me know what you guys think. thx http://www.jwrussell.com/ Quote
