Kosire Posted April 30, 2010 Report Posted April 30, 2010 Skidrow? Skidrow from Modern Warfare 2? That’s right! I’m currently working on a complete port of the popular Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Multiplayer map Skidrow to Source Engine or to be more specific for the game Counter-Strike: Source as a Bomb/Defusal. Currently the map’s state will soon enter a BETA and will then be play tested to make sure the scale is correct (The scale is done as close as I could ever manage. I’ve counted bricks, tiles and whatnot.) and the gameplay is fantastic like in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. If you know how to do this, add me on Steam: http://steamcommunity.com/id/kosire/home Quote
Minos Posted April 30, 2010 Report Posted April 30, 2010 Isn't that kinda illegal? Why? He's not stealing assets from COD or making money out of this... Quote
dux Posted April 30, 2010 Report Posted April 30, 2010 Remember the duke nukem source stuff? They weren't doing anything wrong wither. Quote
channie Posted April 30, 2010 Report Posted April 30, 2010 Use 3D ripper DX to get the MW2 models. It's pretty straightforward. Quote

I don't think anybody's going to rain on his parade, but technically he is sort of stealing I guess. Quote

Doenst work with steam copy and using a cracked will just say Steam is required to be online to play multiplayer. So doenst work for me, but someone managed to do so. Quote
Surfa Posted April 30, 2010 Report Posted April 30, 2010 Using the content from another game is a very hazy area. Some companies don't mind so much but with actisue I would be very cautious. Well personally I wouldn't bother at all seeing as releasing it would technically be breaking copyright laws but w/e. Quote
ElectroSheep Posted April 30, 2010 Report Posted April 30, 2010 If you use some other game content in your map, don't post it on interlopers or fps banana Quote

I don't think anybody's going to rain on his parade, but technically he is sort of stealing I guess. technically he probably is not stealing if he paid for the game that he's ripping the content from. what he's doing is allowing us to all potentially steal that content(if we did not pay for the game that the content came from) by releasing it in his own level for free. so yes, that is illegal. i doubt the people who made MW2, one of the biggest games out right now, are going to be very happy about it. the entire "he's not making money off of it" excuse does not apply. legalities aside, the level looks really good. i hope you find a way to finish it without using assets you don't own the rights to. besides, who wants to play an exact copy of a level from a different game? come up with something, at least slightly, new and orignal if you're going to be re-creating a map. you've got to keep it fresh. Buddy Posted May 1, 2010 Report Posted May 1, 2010 The license terms on which you agree when buying the game propably dont allow you to modify the game in any way, so ripping content off it is already illegal. Quote
Steppenwolf Posted May 1, 2010 Report Posted May 1, 2010 Why don't you design your own map from scratch? I find it kinda lame to rip stuff from other games and it's illegal too. Quote
-HP- Posted May 1, 2010 Report Posted May 1, 2010 Just make your own shit! And learn in the process... Quote
