Minos Posted April 23, 2010 Report Posted April 23, 2010 Demo is out, anyone played it? I was honestly blown away, there are so many tiny improvements that make this game a lot more fun than Skate 2. I also loved the new hardcore mode, it feels so close to real skateboarding that it makes me wanna go out and start skateboarding again What i love most about this game is that the core mechanics are so good that sometimes I just forget about the objectives and spend hours just freeskating and trying new tricks. The graphics look really really good too, kind of reminds me of Mirrors Edge (perhaps they are the using the same lightmapping solution? cant tell): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P3j04soa98c Quote
st0lve Posted April 23, 2010 Report Posted April 23, 2010 It's too much of the same IMO. Hardcore is ok, but flips are still too easy, and grinding is too bugged (in the demo at least, tons of videos on youtube that show it). I'd rather see a more realistic system which required you to catch flips and such instead of underflips and darkslides.. I have my fears that they get sucked too much into the arcade direction which will fail them (TONY HAWK AM I RITE?). I'll get it, because I play Skate and Skate 2 on a weekly basis, and I want a new city. But if I wasn't skating, I wouldn't spend $50 on a game that basicially is reusing 90% of the core mechanics as well as a lot of animations and art... Edit: Also EA Nation not working properly with a router (uploading clips, downloading stuff and playing online without problems) is a big downside for me. I have had problems with it since release day of Skate, and contacted EA on several occasions with them being unable of providing me with a fix that actually works... Quote
Rick_D Posted April 23, 2010 Report Posted April 23, 2010 >Hardcore mode >first trick is a fs shoveit double kickflip >fuck off Anyone remember Thrasher: Skate and Destroy? Why won't someone just remake that fucking game? Quote
Rick_D Posted April 23, 2010 Report Posted April 23, 2010 And another thing: why the fuck is it always about huge shit that would take 50 attempts to land. Some of the shit in that video just pisses me off. I want to see a guy do a beautifully smooth kickflip 5-0 and land that shit like it was hot butter dripping into warm velvet. Smoooooooth. Instead we get the most ludicrous bullshit some faggot can crank out. Maybe playing this on a PS3 with the god awful analogue sticks would make it hard enough to feel slightly realistic. Quote
Minos Posted April 24, 2010 Author Report Posted April 24, 2010 Are you guys serious? Did you even play the demo? st0lve - Skate 2 came out january 2009, this is coming out one year and half after it. The core mechanic was already pretty good in skate 2, so why try to fix something that isn't broken? Did you really expect they would redo all animations and stuff? Maybe for a next gen game but not for this gen, doesn't make much sense tbh. Quote
PhilipK Posted April 24, 2010 Report Posted April 24, 2010 Gonna check out the demo, I played the first one quite a lot. Never tried the second tho Quote

Maybe for a next gen game but not for this gen, doesn't make much sense tbh.I am 100% serious, which is the worst part. A lot of the skate forums are also full of people that are pissed on the bugged grinding\sliding in Hardcore so I am not alone on this. Why I want the core mechanics to be changed is because I want a more realistic game, rather than the same old stuff that most of us skate nerds have perfected a long time ago. I did not expect them to do new animations, because they didn't do it in Skate 2, but I am paying full price for a "new" game which in theory isn't new, is bugging me a bit. It's like selling a new car with an old engine in it. But as I said, I'll get the game, primarily to get a new city, if they fix the bugs in Hardcore that would be good as well, but my hopes aren't that high. As for the series, just look at THPS ratings from the start, they milked it too far, and I expect Skate to go in exactly the same direction, which is a shame.. Rick, T:S&D is da boooomb nigga, best game evr. Quote

Do you guys remember Thrasher: Skate and Destroy? They had a hard mode that required you to press a button after doing a flip trick in order to land it - and man that improved the game a thousand-fold. Just little things to make it more challenging and realistic. I HATE that I can see people do 180's over everything and do massive flips into grinds and then flip out into tricks that just couldn't be linked together, hardflips into noseblunts and then 360flips out and shit, I mean come on, I know SOMEONE has done it ONCE but then it should also be hard as fuck for US to do it. Also, where's my impossible-flip? Why have we gone 5 years without a fucking impossible? Quote
Rick_D Posted May 20, 2010 Report Posted May 20, 2010 Awesome ! But.. that's NOT cool, and just shows why they are going wrong. Appealing to peopel that don't really care about a nice skating game and just want to do MAD SHIZ with video game characters. Next we'll see a naked chick with huge tits and a half-aborted fetus hanging from her cunt. Quote
st0lve Posted May 20, 2010 Report Posted May 20, 2010 Did anyone buy it? I'll get it soon, I just need my paycheck first But my friend completed it in 2 days on Hardcore, except most of the online challenges since EA Nation doesn't work with a router Quote

Minos Posted July 11, 2011 Author Report Posted July 11, 2011 This me owning a spot in Skate 3: http://skate.ea.com/gallery?contentType ... Id=1858242 Quote
Rick_D Posted July 11, 2011 Report Posted July 11, 2011 wow i was angry in this thread. anyway, i got this game and i played it for like 2 hours trying to like it but i just couldn't. hardcore mode just seemed to push you away from grinds and didn't let you jump very high, and that seemed like it. i had no trouble doing ludicrous flip tricks. i really want a good skating game that mixes boards, inline and bmx, and has a decent thrasher-style hard mode, with online play where friends can ride together. i miss hanging with my old friends now we are in different countries and can no longer skate together Quote
