Just curious. Also, almost everything you could pirate offers some kind of demo so I didn't make "Yes but I'll eventually support what I pirate if I use it." If you pirate you pirate, no points for promising to make it up one day :D

Sometimes:

Convenience

I think the price is unfair

Only small or obscure things

Only games, Only movies, Only screeners, Only albums, Only songs, Only magazines, Only ebooks, etc etc

_______________

I'm really more interested in the people who no longer do it. How long has this been your opinion? Did you start to find it unethical? Did working in the game industry change your opinion? Is the hassle just not worth it when you? Is it for the media/box? Was your ISP threatening to cut off service? How strong is your conviction? What else?

Yeah well, I'm not gonna lie. I do download shit sometimes.

Although, ever since I started working in the games industry 3 years ago, I never downloaded a game ever again.

Music, well... I do buy some albums now and then, (Actual CD's) but only from my favorite producers. I do buy a lot of music on iTunes as well, even though it's pretty expensive sometimes when it should be cheaper than buying the whole album on CD.

Movies, when I was living in Portugal, I used to go cinema at least once a week (Fuck... i miss that :(). Here in Germany, i don't do that anymore, mainly because this assholes dub their movies, they still have the original versions on some cinemas but you always have to travel like 20 km's to get there... pff.

As for series, I do buy them, but only after I watched them on TV or Downloaded them. Like I did with 24, House MD, Californication, etc. Somethings things just deserve your money, and you'll want to watch again anyways.

Honest truth... I don't download anything illegal anymore, apart from the no-steam cracks for MW2/F.E.A.R. 2 Used to download a lot of music but I stopped doing that awhile ago and I never ever download games, partly because it takes too long and because I feel bad taking away money from those that have slaved away making the titles...

I don't pirate games anymore ever since I started doing 3D. So, my "sometimes" relates to movies (usually rare ones, I like watching most movies on a TV), music and tv shows.

Same here. Pirating games nowadays feels like taking a dump in my own swimming pool. (I'm still waiting for my bonus for the DS game I worked on :fist::oops: ). I still pirate a few ds game now and then, mostly due to the fact they are too expensive for what they are (mostly amateur'ish titles) and because R4 is sooo convenient. I still buy the ones I like the most though, like Pokemon and Animal Crossing.

I still pirate all my software though. That's partly due to habit and partly due to prices. Who buys 3ds max or the Adobe suit for personal use anyway?

Oh yeah...I forgot to mention software, well pirating software is kinda a given I think for us hehe. 1k+ for a licence :0?

But but, you work in a studio now though, aren't you required to have a legal copy of the software the studio uses if you want to work on studio stuff at home?

Music, yep. But only for a taster. If I like the music presented in one album then I'll more then likely buy the rest of their stuff. Games, nope. The time it takes to download the game then find a legitimate crack is not worth the effort when you can just as easily buy the thing off Steam and have it tied to your account for eternity so you don't end up losing the game. But I'll happily pirate Photoshop and 3DS Max because - let's face it - nobody in their right mind would purchase a license when they're only using it for personal use. :v

And, eventually, when you end up using those apps at work your employer must pay for the license, so for Adobe and Autodesk, you pirating their apps for home use, is some sort of long term investment for them.

Older versions of Photoshop are not that expensive.

Used to pirate music, but stopped after I got a job. Never really pirated games and grew up on consoles anyway... not insinuating it never happened on consoles or that I didn't attempt it, but the process was different: Your dodgy uncle got some guy he knew down the pub to fiddle with your console, meaning you lost it for a few weeks and it could come back as a brick, and you end up with a load of badly labelled CD's for budget titles you would never think of playing.

I still download some things that are impossible to get hold of.

Software damn expensive of course because at my school we are asked to use 3ds Max, Maya, photoshop, Illustator, 3Dcoat, Mudbox, Zbrush ... imagine we have to pay for our studies. Of course it will not be the case when I got out of school, I am currently a prospective buyer.

And music for things very rare or difficult to buy, but I love Disc, I currently have 80 discs and I will probably buy much when i'll make some money.

I used to pirate some software for school stuff (mathcad, photoshop, pro/e, office suite), until I found out I could get it all for free through my school :celebrate:

Also can get almost every flavor of Windows from XP thru 7 for free :D

I'm still running a pirated XP, just because I can't be bothered to go through the hassle of reinstalling it with a legit version.

Haven't pirated music in a decade, I get pretty much everything through iTunes, and the only game I ever pirated was Starcraft, and that was only after I lost TWO purchased discs. Downloaded, mounted, never will lose it again :)

I've pirated a handful of movies/shows, some because it'd be stupid expensive to buy them(band of brothers series, lotr trilogy...) and some because I'm too lazy to go to the store and rent it. I never burn them to discs or anything and keep them, just watch them and delete them. Unless they're fantastic movies, I don't ever have a hard copy. And if it is a fantastic movie and I want a hard copy, I buy it.
