Minos Posted February 19, 2010 Report Posted February 19, 2010 Awesome stuff yeah.Congrats to the winners, this is truly an epic effort I dislike how everything looks so noisy and have odd color combinations all around though. Stuff like that makes some of the entries look very 2006'ish. Don't mean to offend anyone here but I can barely make out what's happening in this screenshot: This picture.... ...could look a lot better if it wasnt for the excessive blurriness and lack of contrast (stronger light spots I mean). They should have used HP's/buddy's SFAM entry as reference for good lighting: Another prime example of this is Mass Effect 2. I love the art assets but the post-effect filters and odd red'ish lighting make the game look VERY bad in some places. Quote
-HP- Posted February 19, 2010 Report Posted February 19, 2010 So, what did the winners got exactly? Apart from the spotlight... I couldn't agree more Minos, that's why I love Mirror's edge art direction so much! Clean and beautiful. Most of the games are grundgy and noisy, that's a fact. Maybe It's a lame excuse, but It's just that It's hard to make clean environments look believable. Noisy textures will make the overall look of the scene look busy, which can fool the players eyes for detail, same goes for screen filters! I hate overused DoF, bloom (HDR), AO, and shit like that, It's nice that it's there but don't make the game / scene about it to the point where you can't make up what the hell you're looking at, not even shapes let alone textures. UE3 doesnt help at that either, with it's over the top screen filters that people just use erroneously, starting with UT3 itself, an authentic visual noise clusterfuck fest. Quote
Sentura Posted February 19, 2010 Report Posted February 19, 2010 ut3 has always bothered me with its blur. i remember seeing it alot even in the standard game... Quote
