Section_Ei8ht Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 Awwww yeah! http://hellforge.gameriot.com/blogs/Hel ... axis-Games NEW YORK, Feb 18, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- 2K Games, a publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (TTWO 9.58, -0.08, -0.83%) , today announced that Sid Meier's Civilization® V, the newest entry from the genre-defining strategy-based franchise, is currently in development at Firaxis Games for PC. Civilization V reinvigorates the classic turn-based strategy genre with an astonishing new engine built from the ground-up for this flagship edition of the Civilization franchise. Players are introduced to an entirely new combat system, deeper diplomatic interactions and a cavalcade of expanded features that deliver a fully immersive experience providing hours of entertainment as players build and defend their empire on their quest to become the greatest ruler the world has ever known. Civilization V takes this definitive strategy game series in new directions with the introduction of hexagon tiles allowing for deeper strategy, more realistic gameplay and stunning organic landscapes for players to explore as they expand their empire. The brand new engine orchestrates a spectacular visual experience that brings players closer to the Civ experience than ever, featuring fully animated leaders interacting with players from a screen-filling diplomatic scene and speaking in their native language for the first time. Wars between empires feel massive as armies dominate the landscape, and combat is more exciting and intense than ever before. The addition of ranged bombardment allows players to fire weapons from behind the front lines, challenging players to develop clever new strategies to guarantee victory on the battlefield. In addition to the new gameplay features debuting in Civilization V, an extensive suite of community, modding and multiplayer elements will also make an appearance. "Sid Meier's Civilization franchise has been recognized as one of the greatest PC game franchises of all time with millions of units sold worldwide," said Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K. "Civilization V takes the franchise further by offering players a more immersive experience with deeper strategies; heightened tactical combat; vast, realistic landscapes to explore, battle over and claim as their own; and an in-game community hub where Civ fans can share content and compete against each other without leaving the game. This marks a new era that will forever change the franchise responsible for sleep deprivation and reduced productivity for nearly two decades." "Each new version of Civilization presents exciting challenges for our team," said Sid Meier, director of creative development at Firaxis Games. "Thankfully, ideas on how to bring new and fun experiences to Civ players never seem to stop flowing. From fully animated leaders and realistic landscapes, new combat tactics, expanded diplomacy and shared mods, we're excited for players to see the new vision our team at Firaxis has brought to the series." In addition to Civilization V, Firaxis Games is also currently developing Sid Meier's Civilization® Network, a Civ game for Facebook. With Sid Meier leading design, Civilization Network will offer yet another option for world domination to both the casual gamer and the biggest fans of the series. It's another way to access the famously addictive world of Civilization. For more information on Sid Meier's Civilization V, please visit Quote
Sindwiller Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 Hexagons. Shit got just real. Definitely. Hah, a "next-gen" Civ game, who would've thought of that. I would actually find it awesome if somebody redid Alpha Centauri. Quote
-HP- Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 Why does this game got a dude's name as a prefix? lol Quote
dux Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 Are these still getting churned out? Jaysus. Time for some new IP mates. Quote
Minos Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 Jesus christ that looks ugly as hell... look at those tree sprites, they look like they were taken straight from google images. I also think the color choices look pretty bad. Civ4 looked a lot better than those screenshots =( Quote
Mazy Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 Hexagons. Shit got just real. Haha, totally, it's like a new dimension, or direction :G. Although Civilization is still one of my all time favorite game franchises, then it is starting to get kinda ridiculous with these new editions. This one in particular sticks out, since there's gonna be a Civ on Facebook later this year, and no doubt that's gonna be huge, but that does leave this one kinda sticking out since it's gonna be a full fetched retail title, and by the sound of it then it doesn't sound like its really gonna offer that much new. Has it really changed at all since Civ 3? They added the religion stuff and some more diplomacy stuff, but apart from that, hmmm. Anyway, I'll probably end up getting it again anyway, who am I kidding D: Quote
Sentura Posted February 19, 2010 Report Posted February 19, 2010 this will be known as, "the game that was impossible to master"... Quote
Jetsetlemming Posted February 19, 2010 Report Posted February 19, 2010 Man, what's wrong with you guys, Civ 4 came out five years ago dudes, it's been more than long enough for a new Civ. I've personally been waiting a while for this one, cause I love most of Civ4 but hate the combat mechanics, the announcement of hexes and redone combat and new engine = I'm so getting this Quote

Skjalg Posted February 19, 2010 Report Posted February 19, 2010 I played civ4 a lot as well, will most likely give this one a few hours of my time Quote
Thrik Posted February 19, 2010 Report Posted February 19, 2010 Er that looks way better than Civilisation 4 to me, and generally pretty nice. Did you guys play the same Civ 4 as me? Quote
AlexM Posted February 22, 2010 Report Posted February 22, 2010 I have to keep a very safe distance from the civilization series. I've lost entire weeks playing this. Definitely in the top 5 games that I've played to a degree that most would deem unhealthy. Quote
Buddy Posted February 22, 2010 Report Posted February 22, 2010 This looks like Crysis 1 intro with all those hexagons. I have no idea what this is about and without any background i must admit that this looks kinda wierd. Quote
Low Posted February 22, 2010 Report Posted February 22, 2010 Let's hope they bring back Leonard Nimoy to do more narrating. "You have discovered paper." Quote
