EviLTaxi Posted December 2, 2004 Report Posted December 2, 2004 I think so too! the best would be to take some location that has only been mentioned in HL² (or HL1)! like in HL1 there were the Challenger Deep and Hangar 16(?) and ppl made SP mods about those locations...this is very cool imho! Taylor Swift Posted December 2, 2004 Report Posted December 2, 2004 who cares? mapcore allways wins. Quote
RD Posted December 3, 2004 Report Posted December 3, 2004 theres way more competition that u think. Btw, i would definitely stick to some style seen in hl2 single player. This map is gonna be part of hl2, so its gotta fit in Quote
FrieChamp Posted December 3, 2004 Report Posted December 3, 2004 The entire purpose of this contest is to supply the HL2 DM players with new high quality maps. Maps Valve didn't have time or the ressources to design. The fact that the gamemode came in a patch and not in the HL2 box speaks for itself. So this is an easy way for Valve to get HL2 deathmatch finished AND to get the community involved! Very smart move. As RD indicated Valve wouldn't like to see new graphical content because the maps should look like they shipped with the game. Quote
Taylor Swift Posted December 3, 2004 Report Posted December 3, 2004 This map should win the 5.000 $! (this was my own screenshots on some retarded map. Oh i forgot the mapname, so sad. ) Quote
Duff-e Posted December 4, 2004 Report Posted December 4, 2004 wow nexus are you playing lin like DX7? those screens do everything but make hl2 look impressive Quote
Tequila Posted December 4, 2004 Report Posted December 4, 2004 wow nexus are you playing lin like DX7? those screens do everything but make hl2 look impressive I think the fullbright, Godforsaken map doesn't help. Quote
mike-0 Posted December 11, 2004 Report Posted December 11, 2004 Emailed Valve about Custom Content "Please try to use HL2 assets only when creating your map. This includes textures, models, etc. Maps which use non-HL2 assets will still be considered, but our judging process will favor maps which stick as closely as possible to assets in HL2." but i think i'm just gonna stick to HL2's props and textures to be on the safe side. They mean that now, but not later. When judging begins, the judges will be so sick of the same textures/models that they will lean towards custom content. I hope you people trying for this dont put exploded car props in your maps. Quote

They should already be sick of all their content then and would never have released HL2, theyve been working with it for a decade. Anyway last time they held a contest, a datacore ripoff won. They dont get sick of their own stuff, that would be dumb cuz theyre the developers and they know its about the players. Also it took like 2-3years before ppl started getting tired of the hl1 textures Quote
jayrabbit Posted December 12, 2004 Report Posted December 12, 2004 I'd like to map the church from Ravenholm because when I played HL2 i felt a bit disappointed not being able to enter the church. It's probably a good location for deathmatch and the interior with all the paintings would look great (a few custom textures are needed indeed). Anyway I have to pass the Matura (school leaving examination) so there's no time for mapping Quote
