kleinluka Posted December 7, 2009 Report Posted December 7, 2009 For Acoustic guitars I can highly recommend anything by Martin. An other great brand for Acoustics is Taylor. They are in the more expensive range but they will last a lifetime and the sound only gets better with age. Martin acoustic guitars especially play very easily because of how the necks are designed. Don't buy a cheap-ass guitar if you're beginner as those are usually harder to play. Quote
twiz Posted December 7, 2009 Report Posted December 7, 2009 Martin's are amazing. My dad has a '64 and its the nicest sounding guitar I've ever heard. Quote
2d-chris Posted December 7, 2009 Report Posted December 7, 2009 I used to sell guitars at my familys music shop, it's an age old fact playing 12 strings are harder than 6 string, certainly for the intermediate player unless you plan just to feck about and are just bored with a 6 string. They don't sell very well for a reason. they are very unique but can be awesome in the hands of an experienced player. Go to your music shop, look at the string selection, if they have 100 packs of strings only 1 will be for a 12 string guitar. Nuff said Quote
JohnC Posted December 7, 2009 Author Report Posted December 7, 2009 Oh shit yes. I swear to god I'd buy ten guitars from the first company with the common sense to have "six string" and "twelve string" as seperate categories on their site. Quote
Psy Posted December 7, 2009 Report Posted December 7, 2009 I want a 7-string to learn some of Petrucci's awesome stuff. yeah, if i ever get a guitar i'll get a 7-string for sure. change of seasons = <3 http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/prod ... sku=519787 Highly recommended. My buddy has this, and I get some great sounds out of this in a stock config. Great quality for the price. I'd pick one up for myself, but I have a Washburn that I detune to C-Standard and Drop B, so I don't really need a 7 string just yet. Heh. That's the same guitar I've got at the moment except it's the 6-string RG321MH. Quote

Heh. That's the same guitar I've got at the moment except it's the 6-string RG321MH. Nice! I've got an Ibanez 6 string with a floating trem (the S320) and it's my favorite guitar. The feel of the entire guitar and the range of sounds I can get out of it make it awesome easily the best guitar I've ever played. The 7 string feels and sounds the same way. If I needed a 7 string, no questions asked. Quote
kleinluka Posted December 7, 2009 Report Posted December 7, 2009 here's the acoustic I own currently: Martin DX1R http://guitarlounge.890m.com/?p=57 Quote

Our guitarist got the more expensive variant, which sounds quite nice and has an even more aggressive tone quality than his Dean (the exact same guitar Karl Sanders from Nile plays). The only thing that bugs me is that he's fucking around in Bb/Eb, which is absolutely unnecessary -.- Quote
JohnC Posted December 8, 2009 Author Report Posted December 8, 2009 Oh hai mapcorez. Now I'm officially 21. I decided to go with this: http://www.music123.com/Fender-CD-160-S ... 9.Music123 because they have a 45 day return policy, free shipping, and for 400 bucks, it's hard to feel regret. I did see a Martin 12 string on Craigslist for about $695, but that was a bit more than I was willing to spend on my first 12 string. Redgardless, thanks for the input guys. Quote
Psy Posted December 8, 2009 Report Posted December 8, 2009 Let us know how it goes preferably using video or sound clips. Quote
kleinluka Posted December 8, 2009 Report Posted December 8, 2009 Fenders are always a safe choice so this is probably a good first guitar for you. Quote
