Steppenwolf Posted November 30, 2009 Report Posted November 30, 2009 I wonder if there is also a reason from a art pov for a small fov. The higher the fov the smaller stuff looks. Often too small even if its scalled correctly. Games like Dead Space and Bioshock play with fear and the levels are mostly indoor. Could it be that they tried to achieve a more claustrophobic look? Also could it be that they did it intentionaly to trigger uneasiness in players? It's a horror game after all. The movie Irreversible comes to mind here where the director added a low frequency noise to the ambient sound. It's barely hearable but it triggers discomfort and anxiety in a lot of people. Quote
-HP- Posted November 30, 2009 Report Posted November 30, 2009 next time you know it, they put plastic cocks on chairs of porn movie theaters. just so people barely feel it but it triggers discomfort and anxiety as well. Quote

Yeah, I remember reading somewhere that the developers chose a low FOV and the position of the camera for those reasons. Quote

Lord Ned Posted December 1, 2009 Report Posted December 1, 2009 This thread is now about Deadspace. I just started my second playthrough and it's... frustrating. What used to facinate me (Chopping the limbs off) now seems tiresome and cumbersome. Nothing startles me anymore. What's happened? Quote
Serenius Posted December 1, 2009 Report Posted December 1, 2009 This thread is now about Deadspace. I just started my second playthrough and it's... frustrating. What used to facinate me (Chopping the limbs off) now seems tiresome and cumbersome. Nothing startles me anymore. What's happened? Same reason why Doom 3 is only startling/scary the first few levels. Monster closet gameplay gets stale quick. The dismemberment mechanic in Dead Space was a little too overdone. Would have been better as an option to conserve ammo instead of being forced. Quote
D3ads Posted December 1, 2009 Report Posted December 1, 2009 I'd love to play Deadspace but it has that limited 5 installs Securom shit on it so I wont touch it, unless of course they've finally removed that rubbish... Quote

Warby Posted December 1, 2009 Report Posted December 1, 2009 my friends here in hamburg insisted on playing cod 4 mp during the last half year and jesus christ that game is made from blind angles in level design which is terrible all by itself but its made even worse by the fact that their default fov setting is 65 let that sink in for a moment SIXTY FIVE and than you iron side/zoom in from there ... you fucking start sniper scope zoomed D: and the worst bit is the game wont allow you to switch it to anything higher than 80 ... i consider 90° the absolute minimum !
