alecmoody Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 The model is ~1600 polys and I am about 1/4 done with the diffuse texture. The normal map is nearly finished and the spec mask is temporary. Edit: Finished product: Quote
Acumen Posted October 17, 2009 Report Posted October 17, 2009 wow, great work ! what i really like about it, is the natural look of it - the colors and especially the rust/wear/tear. it's not over the top like on almost every other game model out there. so if people say "needs more dirt" plz don't add some definately inspiration folder stuff ! AlexM Posted October 17, 2009 Report Posted October 17, 2009 yeah that looks awesome, even though your only 1/4 done I can see some nice definition on the paint wear there. Quote
D3ads Posted October 18, 2009 Report Posted October 18, 2009 Looking great as I said in the other thread, you don't need to make it too dirty just add bits of rust and little spatters of subtle mud and it'll be awesome Quote
alecmoody Posted October 18, 2009 Author Report Posted October 18, 2009 Yeah, I am trying to not make it overly dirty. The business end and the rear bumper should be pretty worn but the rest shouldn't be over the top. Quote

Skjalg Posted October 19, 2009 Report Posted October 19, 2009 The texture job (or perhaps rendering) isnt as top notch as the modelling. I suggest you work more on that. Quote
Lord Ned Posted October 20, 2009 Report Posted October 20, 2009 I dunno, I like it. Tread area in general looks a little bare, and there's not enough dirt/mud, but I think the colors are a great improvement over the previous ones. Quote
Ginger Lord Posted October 20, 2009 Report Posted October 20, 2009 It looks unnatural to me. I see these sort of things on a weekly basis in a scrapyard so whilst they arn't the cleanest, there are about 20 in varying states of decay. Yours looks brand new that has been scratched up, rather than used. Round where all the hydraulic pipes (which should be black anyway not yellow) go should be black and dirty where fluid has leaked out and dirt stuck to it. There should be soot and exhaust based dirt round the vents (these get filthy within minutes). Mud on the footplates where you get in the cab etc. Dirty hydraulic ram arms with really clean vertical streaks where the fit isn't quite right so it rubs them. Mud flicking up from the tracks would stick to the underside of the bodywork too. The tread area looks bare as its got that plate covering the bogey wheels, so can either keep it real or remove it to make it look more interesting or cut "access" notches into it. http://www.comasco.co.il/image/users/90 ... 281%29.jpg http://www.salvagesparefinder.co.uk/inc ... 8-1001.jpg http://photos.tradeholding.com/attach/h ... c__22_.jpg http://photos.tradeholding.com/attach/h ... b__17_.jpg http://www.traderscity.com/board/userpi ... ctor-1.jpg Hope that helps. Steppenwolf Posted October 20, 2009 Report Posted October 20, 2009 The model looks nice but Ginger Lords crits are valid. It would certainly be worth the effort to redo these parts and turn the model into a grade A portfolio piece. Quote
alecmoody Posted October 20, 2009 Author Report Posted October 20, 2009 okay, i have been adding soot and grime. ginger: Can you elaborate on what this means "The tread area looks bare as its got that plate covering the bogey wheels, so can either keep it real or remove it to make it look more interesting or cut "access" notches into it."
