Scinbed Posted September 15, 2009 Report Posted September 15, 2009 UT3, UT2004, TF2 http://www.slainchild.com Don't think I've posted my portfolio here before, so here it is. Yesterday I updated the design/layout and added some new maps. Any suggestions for improvements are welcome. edit: the TF2 map isn't finished yet, link is to alpha build 6 Quote
dux Posted September 15, 2009 Report Posted September 15, 2009 Really cool man. I really dig the white background with the contrasted lighting in your work. Really makes it pop and look cool. I think it would be better if you got rid of the game links at the top and just put everything on the one page, though. Quote
Scinbed Posted September 15, 2009 Author Report Posted September 15, 2009 Thanks. Main reason I seperated the maps out was to save people from scrolling too much. Quote
2d-chris Posted September 16, 2009 Report Posted September 16, 2009 YES! Really solid portfolio man Your Unreal work is very Inspiring. Quote
Sentura Posted September 16, 2009 Report Posted September 16, 2009 wow... how did i not see that last shot. Quote
Scinbed Posted September 16, 2009 Author Report Posted September 16, 2009 Cheers. Quick question - Is it obvious that the mapnames are download links for the maps? Should I add some text somewhere, "Click the map names to download"? Or is the red mouseover text + cursor change enough.. Quote
PhilipK Posted September 16, 2009 Report Posted September 16, 2009 Solid portfolio, easy to overview. But I don't think it was obvious at all that the names were download links. So it'd probably be a good idea to state that somewhere. Quote
Scinbed Posted September 16, 2009 Author Report Posted September 16, 2009 Added a download icon so it should be easier to notice now. Quote
-HP- Posted September 16, 2009 Report Posted September 16, 2009 Superb folio! Not a fan of white BG's, but this one kinda works! Quote
Algor Posted September 19, 2009 Report Posted September 19, 2009 It's pretty simple and effective, but almost too simple. Like someone suggested, you may just want to throw all your levels onto a single page. This way if someone doesn't happen to see those sections by the time they get to the bottom, they may think that's all there is. I also have no idea of knowing what kind of maps these are (ie; SP, or MP), what gameplay modes they support, whether you made custom art for them or not, what else you did, etc. One thing you can do is check out job listings for the job you want, and often times they will tell you how to structure your portfolio. Here is an example from iD's Level Designer opening; Applicants should provide specific examples of relevant work. These examples can be in the form of playable game levels, screenshots, scripting examples, video captures, or any other method that conveys the work being demonstrated. Examples should also include descriptions of exactly what the applicant is responsible for and what creative processes were used. http://www.idsoftware.com/business/jobs/index.php Quote
Scinbed Posted September 19, 2009 Author Report Posted September 19, 2009 Thanks Algor, I see what you mean. The download zips do contain text files with a lot of that information in them, but yeah, I agree it should probably be there before you download it. I might have a go at adding some info about the maps at some point Quote

However I found the categories the second time i had a look at the folio, so I strongly agree with your suggestion. Quote
