Wow, that looks insanely good for Q1! really like the architecture and texture work. It's a multiplayer map, right?

 

Nope, it's a singleplayer map. I could convert it for MP rather easily though.

 

 

Can you imagine if something like that launched with default Q1? History could have been altered

 

What you see is possible thanks to the awesome new compilers and the ambient occlusion that was introduced a couple of months ago.

What you see is possible thanks to the awesome new compilers and the ambient occlusion that was introduced a couple of months ago. I was going to ask what version of Q1 was this, I knew it was cos you always pay that sort of work, but the textures are amazingly higher resolution, are they?

Here's an example of what stock Quake can do, this is Skacky's map from retrojam 2 running in my minimal port:

Yeeeaaahhh, a Pentium may have been on fire trying to deal with that.

 

also GL_NEAREST/GL_NEAREST_MIPMAP_NEAREST 4 life, that looks amazing, Skacky!

They're mostly 256*256 (which is quite big for Quake).

Been working on this for Map Jam 5 on func_msgboard. Deadline is April 8th and there's tons of stuff to do.

Yes, I've just quoted all these pics again. I don't care if you don't like it. If it was up to me I would start every new WIP page with these. But it would probably discourage newcomers :)

 

Having said that, I have no words for what I've just seen. Seriously, that's hands down the prettiest thing I've ever seen in any Quake map to date. Not even almighty Sock or MFX have displayed such awesomeness in one map. Holy fucking god Skacky, you really outdid yourself!
