FRAG Posted February 24, 2015 Report Posted February 24, 2015 As I'm limited to what I can do on this laptop while in hospital, I decided to give the Sledge editor a go and just make a quick map in HL1, nothing special, just testing out the ease of use etc. If anyone is interested in using the Sledge editor, I created a blog post about it too. http://fragleveldesign.tumblr.com/post/111975900312/first-came-the-hammer-then-came-the-sledge 2d-chris, Jaayu28, mr.P and 2 others 5 Quote

will2k Posted February 25, 2015 Report Posted February 25, 2015 More WIP What ever happened to that map we play-tested a long while back? Is this the same level? I've been inactive/mostly offline in the past 4-5 months (real life/ personal issues) so all my projects were on hold until a week ago where I got back in full form and now I'm going back to all these projects to finish them up. The map you are referring to is (Black Mesa themed) which was playtested here back in May 2014 and it has been pending eversince (sidetracked by several projects). The WIP i'm posting here is a hostage rescue map set in west european rural area (reference from French and Scottish villages). Once done, I'll have more time to resume work on Forlorn as well as a port of my HL2DM map to CSGO. A fourth project is to complete the New York trilogy (after east borough and brooktown) with a hostage rescue map set in the city hall (still an early layout on paper though). Beck Posted February 25, 2015 Report Posted February 25, 2015 Was just playing about with the DOTA 2 SDK and made this in about 40 minutes whilst learning how the tools work. Quite enjoyed it and will probably expand this to create a small map to walk around in. Bevster, Jord, kinggambit and 16 others 19 Quote

I'm assuming it's due to balance, but it'd be cool to see people publish new levels. ESToomere 1 Quote
Beck Posted February 25, 2015 Report Posted February 25, 2015 Cheers! I'm not a DOTA or MOBA player at all but I was interesting in toying with the tools. Yeah, I always found it weird how most/all MOBA games only have one map. I don't think any other genre of game has only used one map (unless it's based upon history). Surely it can't be that hard to balance three lanes with some slight branches coming off of them? So long as the distances are all similar it should be fairly easy? I'm sure there's a reason for it. Anyway, Invalid Nick (Who made De_Mist and CS_Rush, pretty sure I've seen him post here before) has made a nice looking map for DOTA 2. Not sure how you play custom maps though. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=381995351 Quote

There's real deep, ingrained meta in the placement of wards and stuff around the map. The movement of Roshan and stuff last year was a huge deal. Quote

The map you mentioned is still a layout on paper so a realistic time to start building the backbone blocks would be in a month or 2 from now after finishing the 3 maps on hand. Now it's my time to ask and beg : please get back to your csgo carrier map and finish it, plz (take a small break from dota ) Squad and Vaya 2 Quote
