Only if you mean default Radiant, which is utterly crap. GTK Radiant is like a more stable Hammer with patch meshes and better vertex editing.

see previous image. ;)

Gah, Donald Sutherland or no Donald Sutherland, how can you live with the camera controls from hell?

What's wrong with using the arrow keys and AZCD for camera rotation/alignment? It makes you feel like you're operating a starship!

Actually, I think the vertex editing in VHE is far superior, but just about everything else in Gtk 1.4 is superior to VHE.

I think every id engine after Q2 (which means all of what, Q3 and D3? heh) uses Radiant. I can't see that changing. Besides, Q4 is using a modified D3 engine anyway right? Radiant will probably be built into Q4 as well.

I dunno, I couldn't get used to it. The vertex editing tool was a pain to use and I just can't work on the 4 windows style. The single window option was also a pain to use, it's a lot easier with Hammer.

I've got love for both editors. Its easy to go from one to the other, but maybe thats just me.

that being said, heres some wip of a doom3 level:

got the basic brushwork, just need to detail everything. its supposed to be a vehicle repair bay.

No, it's not just you. I don't mind switching between them. Once you get used to them, it's not so difficult to switch between, albeit you'll probably try to toggle the mouse camera with right click in hammer, or press z in Radiant. ^_~ I didn't realize so many people here used radiant.

About those pics, there's really nothing to see yet. It's more or less showing off D3 textures. Show again when there's more to look at.

How the hell can people live forced to use either the arrow keys on the KB or the scrollbars to scroll the map, EVERY OTHER editor uses the hold down RMB to scroll, which is MUCH FASTER and MUCH BETTER.

Or you could just use the mousewheel. Which is fine.

I've always found Hammer's camera controls to be far superior to anything else I've used. I've dabbled with radiant for various games (just making test maps here and there for Q3 / JK2 / Doom3) and I don't like the camera controls whatsoever.

No you can't, tell me how I can scroll sideways using a normal mousewheel... also, its annoying needing to roll the wheel if you are suppoed to scroll long distances.

You miss my point. With the mousewheel, you simply zoom out rapidly and then zoom back in where the mouse pointer is located. It's just as quick for me as scrolling.

Not as good, its as with the 3d view and radiant, I can say its as fast just moving your hand to the arrow and the kb and moving there, as it is using the wasd config...

In reality, wsad is much better and faster, so is using the RMB to scroll the 2d map. Espec since the RMB dosen't do anything for most times.

Well by all means, contact Valve about it. I'd love to see them update Hammer's myriad of bugs and lacklustre features, but they seem to do sweet F A.

It's a case of making do, sadly.
