ElecHeadMatt Posted May 17, 2007 Report Posted May 17, 2007 Thanks a lot for the feedback, you guys. Keep it coming, I really really wanna try to make this as awesome as possible. Hehe I also thought the first pic was a photo or render Pretty cool I must say. I don't think it is boring if the atmosphere is right. Just take a look at the UT2004 mod "Hollow Moon" which is also only in black and white and creates an awesome atmosphere! Or you could just make some Characters or story relevant things, places, etc. in color. Sin City like. Honestly, I really wanna keep it mostly black and white, though I've toyed with having some stuff in color, like the final level maybe. Or also release a color version. I'd like to think though that if the environments themselves are interesting enough to explore/play in, then that will make up for the lack of color, not as compensation but just to balance the style. Oooooo Overlay or Color Correction? Overlay. Color correction would probably give me more control, but not everyone will be running color correction and the black and white thing is sort of one of the driving concepts to the project. Nice screenshots elecheadmatt - does it look that good in colour? ;D I hope so. Quote
bartollo Posted May 18, 2007 Report Posted May 18, 2007 thx for c&c guys BOMB B - old shot and the same place with custom props besides west wall was redesigned to put some more light on the floor  Rick_D - Yes, "I am still using placeholders, in fact the ------ ceilings and grates are only temporary placeholders" ( brick walls are custom ) cheers Quote
Evert Posted May 18, 2007 Report Posted May 18, 2007 The last two screens looks pretty good, will look alot better with real textures I guess. Still I think the lighting is too contrasty, I'd make the shadows a bit brithter. Quote
fonfa Posted May 18, 2007 Report Posted May 18, 2007 the trusses on the left of the 3rd pic look weird because of the vertex lighting. Quote
Minos Posted May 18, 2007 Report Posted May 18, 2007 Yeah it looks nice but I'm with Evert on this one (regarding the lighting) Quote

Method Posted May 20, 2007 Report Posted May 20, 2007 Bartollo: It's a good start, but I suggest you'll look into adding more distinct details that make map more realistic in terms of Soviet era. I know it's early in the design process, but here are some of the abandoned russian places: http://www.abandoned.ru http://docent.msk.ru/index.php?action=g ... nderground http://design.mykurkino.ru/euth/index.php I can't really help with what is suitable in Soviet warehousre, because I was very young during those times, but look into abandoned stuff to get ideas what used to be significant to the atmosphere. Maybe some propaganda posters. -Method Quote

Yes, propaganda stuff is cool idea, i've planed a big Lenin's poster on the wall on A or B site and big, concrete 'hammer&sickle' monument on the courtyard. Smaller one is above the gate on B-site. At the moment i have almost 6000 reference photos according to properties of my 'mapping inspiration folder' Quote
Method Posted May 20, 2007 Report Posted May 20, 2007 Oh yea, oh yea... well I have around 15k inspiration images + 5k black and white Chicago 1930's historical photos, hehe Btw I found that using program such as NeoDownloader helps you collect images much faster. You just specify the website, what image format you want to save, set some filters and it downloads every image. Look into it if you need more reference. -Method Quote

ifO Posted May 20, 2007 Report Posted May 20, 2007 Looks pretty nice, did you make the textures btw? They're pretty. The plant pots look kind of tiny in comparison to the 'grand' feel of everything else. Also are you still working on the lighting? Those spots under the paintings with no apparent source are temporary I'm guessing? Hmm that NeoDownloader sounds interesting, *Googles. Quote
JeanPaul Posted May 20, 2007 Report Posted May 20, 2007 I love it. Very unrealistic, but thats what gives it a unique charm, so don't change a thing. Quote
