JeanPaul Posted February 11, 2007 Report Posted February 11, 2007 Another shot of my disposal-remake: somehow manages to look worse than the original heh Bscly I say re-re-make it again, and try not to use so much of the original geometry, but instead, use a general idea of what the area concept is and build from there. NykO18 Posted February 12, 2007 Report Posted February 12, 2007 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Source_Engine#Dynamic_lighting_and_shadowing_2 Ahhh, but that isn't for Source Reminds me of an update of the Source SDK that led to the apparition of the "Realtime lightning preview" in the 3D viewport of Hammer.. unfortunately, this view never worked and was removed few days later by another quick update.. Rokusho39 Posted February 13, 2007 Report Posted February 13, 2007 Well, heres something I've started, it was origionally going to be a shot for my, yet to exist, protfolio, but have now changed my mind and want to intergrate this into a full map of somekind. Quote
Wesley Tack Posted February 13, 2007 Report Posted February 13, 2007 inspired by fortress forever ? looks nice none the less Quote
Rokusho39 Posted February 14, 2007 Report Posted February 14, 2007 Hmm, havn't seen much of that mod. Quote
Zacker Posted February 14, 2007 Report Posted February 14, 2007 It begs for higher lightmap quality. Quote
Rokusho39 Posted February 14, 2007 Report Posted February 14, 2007 Well, I'll probably stick to the default level until I start to get more detailed. Quote
Wesley Tack Posted February 14, 2007 Report Posted February 14, 2007 3rd map I'm finishing for Off Limits, the biggest yet. Still a lot to do, like making some of the rocks go into the 3Dskybox, and lots of tweaks / fixes. Still need to open up the canals underneath the rocks as well. Quote
von*ferret Posted February 14, 2007 Report Posted February 14, 2007 looks sweet! but yeah, rocks are obviously WIP Quote
teeluu Posted February 15, 2007 Report Posted February 15, 2007 Rokusho39: Feels odd to see a tree in a place like that, looks like a cool start anyway WesleyTack: Nice wip there There's few textures which repeats kinda badly, the view might distract a bit tho. Quote
Grinwhrl Posted February 15, 2007 Report Posted February 15, 2007 Looks very nice, Love the custom texture work. How long are your compile times for these huge maps? Quote
sk3tch Posted February 15, 2007 Report Posted February 15, 2007 Wesley...For some reason that reminds me of what a TFC2 map would look like. Looks unique. Quote
Wesley Tack Posted February 15, 2007 Report Posted February 15, 2007 Looks very nice, Love the custom texture work. How long are your compile times for these huge maps? This is from the latest log, fast compile no HDR. 2 hours, 30 minutes, 46 seconds elapsed In hammer the map + 3Dskybox is half of a full grid in top view. And I still need to optimize the final layout. So I hope compile will go a bit faster in the end Wesley...For some reason that reminds me of what a TFC2 map would look like. Looks unique. Really? Any screenshots, I'm interested in seeing it I've been thinking about the rocks, I kinda want rocks like in the movie "Duel" they look like what I have atm, but they aren't very nice right now. Maybe I'll make props for them, once the layout is complete I think I'll just make big props of rocks and replace the displacements. This should give a much better look. Not sure yet though. Here is a screencap from Duel, shows the rocks I wanted: Quote
