actually the first sonic 3d game (back in the 90s as well) was pretty damn decent.

Yeah, the first Sonic: Adventures on the Dreamcast was just as good as the "old" 2D ones on the Megadrive. Haven't played any of the later 3D Sonic games though, so I can't judge, but I heard a lot of bad things about them.

ok i am gonna be this thereads dedicated troll/douchbag:

so lets get started:

-the sonic ip has pretty much always sucked sonic 1 and 2 were fun gameplay wise becasue it was sort of original but the ip has run their course right than and there ... really the gameplay was pretty flawed in 2d allready.

-all the ip milking stuff like the god awful tv show and stuff like sonicspinball should have told people that this ip is not here to stay

-reboot after reboot after reboot is not gonan solve this ... sonic IS OVER

-that teasertrailer is pathetic its not worth anyones attention or bandwidth if you have nothing to show than dont show ffs !

i conclude EPIC FAIL on all counts

I kind've agree with you on most points... but the tv show was awesome. (assuming you and I are talking about the same tv show, there where 2 differnt ones afterall)

This is coming from someone who grew up on genesis/megadrive instead of snes

I was an absolutely devoted Sonic fan in the early days, but (Like I think I've already said in this very thread) then they've been gambling and fucking around with this franchise too much now and its completely lost its relevance. It's great that they finally figured out that going back to the 2D gameplay roots was the right approach if they actually wanna make the original gameplay philosophy work.

But to me I think it wont really matter no matter what they do with it now. The very first Sonic is still one of those few games that I can play through today and still enjoy based on its merits as a genuinely good game and not just a great deal of nostalgia. But it's also just one of those things that's so inherently a 90's thing, and while that also gives it a certain charm to some, then I seriously doubt that they'll ever be able to make Sonic as timeless a character as Mario and thats the bigger underlying issue I have with it. That's really what all these last couple of attempts of reboots have been about; modernizing Sonic and making him "relevant" to a new crowd, which obviously means giving him guns and adding all kinds of annoying side characters :)

But when all is said and done then I'll definitely get this and check it out, I think I owe them a chance now that they're actually trying to make things right :)

Well it's in development. All the clip reveals for certain is the guy leaking it doesn't know how to play Sonic.

Why does so much stuff get leaked these days? Bigger teams, maybe?

That and intentional leaks to encourage viral exposure I think.
