keres Posted September 6, 2009 Report Posted September 6, 2009 ffs is there any way to fix this? i've tried using dx and gl hardware, both end up fucking with the grid in their own little ways. Shit keeps disappearing, some menu items don't show up (if any), and parts of the grid and object disappear too. Please please please, someone, tell me there is a fix. Quote
mjens Posted September 6, 2009 Report Posted September 6, 2009 I have the same issue when using "Snap". I've seen some tutorials where "Snap" was used and it was ok, so it is possible to fix it... Quote
keres Posted September 7, 2009 Author Report Posted September 7, 2009 I asked over at polycount a bit ago. This is so irritating, i love max but i just can't stand it. I hear maya is good for level design, but i don't feel like learning another tool. Quote
Minos Posted September 7, 2009 Report Posted September 7, 2009 I had that with my old graphics card too, it was really annoying. Buying a new one fixed the problem. Which gfx card have you got? Are your drivers up to date? Quote
keres Posted September 7, 2009 Author Report Posted September 7, 2009 I have a 9800gt, the latest working drivers. The absolute latest drivers for my card are broken, but these should suffice. Quote
Zeta Posted September 7, 2009 Report Posted September 7, 2009 Maya has great snapping and I definatly remember Max's being god awful. The one thing I havent found out how to do in Maya that was great in Max is moving objects to 0,0,0 automatically. In Max you just had to center the pivot and then type 0,0,0 into the transform box. In Maya the only way I've found how to do it is to center the pivot then manually drag snap it to 0,0,0. Quote
Pampers Posted September 7, 2009 Report Posted September 7, 2009 you could basicly do the same in maya by freezing transform when you have the object at origo Quote
e-freak Posted September 7, 2009 Report Posted September 7, 2009 make sure you have the right options for the snapping (right click on the snapping tool and select/deselect what you want). easy way to snap to the right positions is also to create a single vertex and place it with the move tool box (right click as well) to the desired position and snap to vertex enabled. I use a neato max script that moves both the pivot and mesh to 0,0,0 with a simple keyboard command. The nice part is that it also aligns the pivot to the bottom of the mesh. I'm sure you can find scripts to do that on scriptspot or something. Quote

That! Snap function in max can be tricky, but one of the reasons is because of the high customization you have with it, so be sure to learn the tool. But your problem definitely seems like a hardware / drivers problem. Quote
