Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising

I thought ep2 had the potential to do good foliage until it came out... Seemed like an afterthought if anything. My favourite thing about ep2 was the skybox's and those are still very impressive today.

like hp said... crysis has had the most solid vegetation... And if anything the community has made it look even better.

Holy fuck some of those pictures are insane. And the best part is that I suppose its actually possible to sorta run the game looking like it is on some of those screenshots with a beefy rig today.

Anyway, regarding the foliage in OFP2 then I think it looks good enough. In this case I'd much rather have quantity of ground vegetation rather than some that blends in really nicely. What I don't like that much about their overall vegetation is that lack of bushes and smaller trees in general, but that might be in some of the other areas of the island.

But I'm also used to console shooters, so excuse me with my low standards :D

Anyway i always disabled the grass in ARMA, because when i was in prone position i couldn't see a thing, but the guy at 200 meters from here could see me with no problem because of the LOD. :(

Which is too bad, because in real life it's really hard to see a guy in tall grass even if you are at 10 meters.

Played this at E3 this year and it was pretty good (played on 360). It's very simy (if that's a word). Looked great and the controls weren't that bad (I am a huge controls freak. Bad ones ruin a game for me ). It was a nice change of pace to the chaos of our game.

I liked how you can run a long way around a way point and flank the battle and it still handles the situation well. We talked with the Devs and they seemed like really good guys.

Anyways, I will probably pick it up when it comes out.

Also lol at the idiots on Youtube comparing this and Arma 2 to COD4

I actually think it looks like a good blend between the two games. The fun gunplay, movment and gameplay mechanics of CoD4 with the large scale world of ArmA.

I have bought every piece of OFP and Arma software that has been released and frankly I am tired of it. I had a lot of fun with ArmA, albeit very specific type of fun; and ArmA 2 wasn't really doing it for me, it made me realise that Bohemia aren't really interested in upping their game and dealing with gameplay problems that have existed for 10+ years.

Not every game has to re-invent the wheel but I would like to see sequels at least dealing with the problems of the previous titles.

Review:

Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising has achieved the singular feat of being a military simulator that's actually fun to play on more than just a "Look how much stuff is here!" way. Codemasters have remembered that the most important thing for a game to be is fun. At the end of the day, if your CO disintegrates for no reason and you can't proceed with the mission, it doesn't matter how accurate the spark plugs are on the vehicle you're driving, you'll get fed up and sack it off.
