We always used to constantly joke that the touch buttons on the PS3 added $100 to the price... now it seems like we may have been on to something...

All seriousness, though, I thought it looked terrible from the top but the front view (and the way you'll be seeing it from the couch) looks fine, and might actually be an improvement in my book. PS3 library is pretty solid now compared to launch, with a few more good exclusives on the way... I'm 360/PC first, but I think this is a fine time to grab a PS3 if you don't have one yet.

Aye, took it a bit longer than the 360 to reach that point where it really makes sense to buy it for the games (read: exclusvies) but its finally there. Have a Uncharted 2 + Slim bundle would be pretty smart :)

While I applaud the way that the hardware has been shrunk to such a snug size, who the hell did they assign the design of this thing to? That plastic style is typically only seen on cheap, shitty products like modems (mentioned above) and inexpensive peripherals. Even if they gave it a glossy coat instead it'd immediately look a billion times better.

My PS3 fits on my TV stand fine so I wouldn't get one anyway, but man that's disappointing — the PS3 is a fantastic piece of hardware for both games and movies, and I endorse anything that makes it accessible to more people. At least it still looks better than the 360 though, just like the regular PS3.

What about Backwards Compatibility? Anyone know anything about that, or have any clue why sony hasn't succeeded in software emulation like MS, at least partially.

edit: I thought the mockup looked sexy.

Did anyone already post the official announcement in this thread? I didn't see it so...

So worst kept secret is out now. Yeah the slim looks a little cheap in pictures but wait to pass judgment until you see it up close. All of us should be very happy, whether you like Sony or not, simply because it will mean more hardware out there and hence more opportunity for games to sell etc. etc. Hopefully more that will help speed up the global rebound of console game sales that so many of the people here ultimately rely on.

I for one would love to see a PS3 + Uncharted2 bundle as others here have mentioned.

Its hard to ignore a slimmer version... For me at least.... I found the old ps3 to be a humongous dust magnet.... Now its a bit smaller but its still a dust magnet. My biggest problem with their case is evertime i see one its covered in dust... hell my pc doesn't even get that dusty and i rarely clean it. xbox360's dont look dusty... Oh well at least with a ps3 you dont have 90 different white looking sex toys layed out around the place like the wii. ( i curse the wii )

I must admit that the day Valve became PS3 hater, i did too.

After the amazing Orange Box release I'm sure the feeling is mutual.

It's weird that all the Sony fans hate on Valve for that, since Orange Box PS3 isn't even their product, it's EA's.

Also the hardware issues with the PS2 Fat are what permanently made me switch teams to PC gaming. I was looking forward to that thing for so goddamn long, and I get it... and four months later it can't read discs anymore.
