FrieChamp Posted July 1, 2009 Report Posted July 1, 2009 Game streaming technology, Dave Perry just posted a demonstration video on his blog: http://www.dperry.com/archives/news/dp_ ... i_-_video/ http://www.gaikai.com Consider me excited. Quote
Warby Posted July 1, 2009 Report Posted July 1, 2009 he doesn't name drop it but he clearly wants to make sure people get that he is not trieng to rip off onlive ... ... but i cant see conceptually what the difference is ... between this an onlive Quote
Furyo Posted July 1, 2009 Report Posted July 1, 2009 Difference is easy to spot. While OnLive would have you buy their receiver, this one is browser based and doesn't require anything but an internet connection and a device capable of running a web browser. So that makes it all the easier to have access to all games by getting rid of one more barrier. That and they claim they don't need nearly as big an internet connection. Quote
JohnC Posted July 1, 2009 Report Posted July 1, 2009 Acclaim Games Shiny Entertainment Enter the Matrix Uh... should I give him credit? Quote
sarge mat Posted July 1, 2009 Report Posted July 1, 2009 He has quite a strong American Accent for someone who was originally from Northern Ireland. I am sure we will see a few places trying this new game streaming tec out. I am optimistic about it but remain to be convinced of how well it will work in the real world. Quote
Izuno Posted July 1, 2009 Report Posted July 1, 2009 I assume Mr. Perry is showing off a prototype system, not a production one ready for millions of consumers. That said, I'm cautiously optimistic about this technology in the long run. Question is, how long is that? Quote
Skjalg Posted July 2, 2009 Report Posted July 2, 2009 appareantly it wont be like onlive were onlive is a portal site containing all the games, but this gaikai software will instead be used by the games companies on their own websites to display their games. I'd hate it if WoW was just a click away :s Quote
FrieChamp Posted July 2, 2009 Author Report Posted July 2, 2009 appareantly it wont be like onlive were onlive is a portal site containing all the games, but this gaikai software will instead be used by the games companies on their own websites to display their games. Today you have to decide between a quick to access but low fidelity game running in your browser and a state of technology app that needs to be downloaded/installed. Gaikai would close that gap and untie graphics from the user's hardware. Too good to be true almost *teary eyed*... Quote
Zacker Posted July 2, 2009 Report Posted July 2, 2009 I'd hate it if WoW was just a click away :s WoW actually has a streaming client which works very effectively and almost makes the game only a click away Quote

madgernader Posted July 4, 2009 Report Posted July 4, 2009 http://us.blizzard.com/support/article. ... leId=20590 the application will detect your internet connection speed and, if your connection meets minimum requirements, you will automatically download the "streaming" World of Warcraft game client. If your connection speed is below the minimum requirement, you will be prompted to download the full game I'm assuming that's what Zacker meant. So if the got the tubes then you can stream, although you'd still need a pc, but really for WoW that isn't too hard. Quote
