dux Posted May 16, 2009 Report Posted May 16, 2009 Why is there no topic on this awesome game yet? I just bought it for £14.99 and been playing it with my friend for the past hour and a half. I'm finding it far more addictive and satisfying than left 4 dead. It's a combination of stalker, painkiller, left 4 dead and BrainBread I.E - AWESOME. It even has heavy metal play when the mutant zombies get close to you. For those of you who don't know much about it it's a co op survival horror game based in the UK. So you can have your characters call each other wankers and muppets. You fight for your life against vastly higher numbers and if you manage to kill them all and you're able to make it to a resupply point you can equip yourself with better weapons, armour, grenades or whatever you can lay your hands on then get ready for the next horde. It sounds incredible simple, but it isn't. You think you have the situation under control with a huge shotgun and your buddy with an assault rifle but we just kept getting overwhelmed by the numbers that came at us, it was frantic shit your pants brilliance. And the fact that the game looks and sounds marvellous makes it's so enjoyable. The zombie noises and environment effects made it very atmospheric. And then the heavy metal comes in and you go fuck yeah, killing time Cooperative gameplay for up to six players against multiple waves of specimens Persistent Perks system, allowing players to convert their in-game achievements into permanent improvements to their character's skills and abilities Over 40 Steam Achievements, including “Dignity for the dead” for killing 10 enemies feeding on dead teammates' corpses and “Hot Cross Fun” for finishing off 25 burning enemies with a Crossbow Slow-motion “ZEDtime” to better watch those crucial and violent creature deaths, even in multiplayer Solo game mode for offline play Nine different monster types trying to eat your face off, armed with everything from teeth and claws, to chainsaws, chain-guns and rocket-launchers 12+ weapons for the players to chose from, ranging from knives and fire-axes to pump shotguns, rifles and a flamethrower Equip your team with welders, medical tools and body armor to help your odds of survival Choose which Perks to play with to best balance out your co-op team against the horrors Open, non-linear play areas: choose when and where to fight — or run; weld doors closed to direct the monster horde down alternate corridors Fully-configurable, allowing players to change the difficulty level, number of creature waves, or even set up their own favorite waves of monsters Support for Steam Friends and other Steamworks features Includes SDK for the creation of new levels and mods Go buy it guys it's fantastic. I'd suggest it as a contender for game of the year alongside Plants vs Zombies http://www.killingfloorthegame.com Quote
AlexM Posted May 16, 2009 Report Posted May 16, 2009 The only reason I heard about this game was someone on my steam list was playing it. Is this a source engine game? Quote
dux Posted May 16, 2009 Author Report Posted May 16, 2009 Unreal 2004, It's by the guys who made Red Orchestra Quote
Erratic Posted May 16, 2009 Report Posted May 16, 2009 I'm liking it. It's a lot more simplistic than L4D so the comparison isn't completely 1:1. It really is just wave based, park your ass in a room and unload until either them or you are dead. Welding doors is cool and offers some alternate strategy but largely you're just ripping through ammo and rearming in between waves. The game is totally scalable for new enemies/weapons/maps. I hope the support is gonna be there. Quote
madgernader Posted May 16, 2009 Report Posted May 16, 2009 Unreal 2004, It's by the guys who made Red Orchestra Well, more of a "made by a mod team picked up by tripwire" seeing as the game had multiple releases out as a mod, and got picked up after the lead was asking tripwire devs about making it a RO mod, and they liked the game... I bought it, but it has to update so I haven't got to play it yet (56k)... It angers me that after my preload is complete and I decrypt the files it decides it needs another 5% Quote
e-freak Posted May 16, 2009 Report Posted May 16, 2009 seeing how much support RO got, tripwire will sure (if the sells are high enough) support this baby for a long time as well. Quote
Erratic Posted May 20, 2009 Report Posted May 20, 2009 It's been top of the Steam charts for a week now. Quote
Buddy Posted May 20, 2009 Report Posted May 20, 2009 It's been top of the Steam charts for a week now. Something managed to throw l4d of the top seller pedestal? Its a must buy then Quote
