dux Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 Fun game but a shame it's completely broken if you're looking to play it seriously, though. Quote

Thrik Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 I assume Dux means for competitive clan play. I can kind of see how TF2 could be a bit tricky for that kind of thing, considering all the random variables and the fact that some people can use weapons completely inaccessible by others — and eventually the special hats each class can have will mix that up even more. I'm of the firm belief that TF2 is first and foremost a game designed to be fun when played casually. It can be incredibly rewarding when played this way, especially if you get some good team players on your side. However I think all the stuff that makes it so fun for casual play is precisely what messes it up for competitive play. I wouldn't want TF2 any other way, though. I am officially the best casual TF2 player in the universe. Quote

I am officially the best casual TF2 player in the universe. TF2 is widely used for clan play, but there are special tournament rules. Things like limitations of maximum amount of players in the same class etc. It's not at all broken, it works fine. It's a team game, and it works great for team matches. It works even better so, because the rest of your team aren't idiots that don't know what they're doing. I played a few games a while back, all with great success. Working together in that game just works. It gives a completely different flow than your "casual" gameplay. Quote
2d-chris Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 Yeah Cybbe but so does every other multiplayer game. Clan/guild play is a different ball game to casual public. No multiplayer game I've come across is an exception to that rule. I agree with Thrik, the focus from how I see the game is on public play. But you know, when there are plenty of public gamers there will be people who take it seriously and join a clan. Quote
Thrik Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 Do such competitions require that you have all the unlocks, then? Because they're a large part of the appeal, and apparently soon there'll be new ways to not only earn them, but also lose them again. You can test the foundation of this if you hit that nice 'Delete' button in your load-out screen. I'm sure TF2 clan play can be done, but it definitely seems like more hassle than its worth to me considering the multitude of rules you must enforce to keep what is an extremely random/flexible game in check. But then my clanning days are well behind me. Quote
dux Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 Yeah don't get me wrong it's a great game for a casual public blast fest. But because it's a great casual game it's really hard to play competitively because of many of the game mechanics. There are many leagues already for clan play but I didn't find it very compelling to play at a competitive level. And clan play is always played with the original weapons, unlocks aren't bothered with as they unbalance the game. Quote
