Spellbinder Posted April 26, 2009 Report Posted April 26, 2009 Might turn out to be something. http://www.knowing-themovie.com/ Quote
FrieChamp Posted April 26, 2009 Report Posted April 26, 2009 Watched it on Friday, purely based on personal recommendation by someone else. I wasn't impressed...it was exciting until the kid had another one of those "hearing device malfunctions" and my buddy next to me said out loud: "BEEP BEEP Aliens to Sergeant Crazy".. From that point on I was just laughing my ass off and couldn't take the movie seriously anymore. Now that doesn't have to happen to you, but since his prediction turned out to be true - the ending made it even more silly to me than it already was. I don't know, it feels like the movie tried to be more than it is, as if there is more to it than they got across - to me at least or maybe I just can't appreciate those "world's end" movies anymore Quote
Thrik Posted April 26, 2009 Report Posted April 26, 2009 Bit late Spelly, this came out over a month ago. I was going to see it, but the reviews are a bit mediocre so I think I'll wait until it appears on LOVEFiLM or Sky HD. Quote

Furyo Posted April 26, 2009 Report Posted April 26, 2009 Watched it against my better judgment based on David Jaffe's blog that stated it was underrated. I usually despise anything Nicholas Cage stars in, to the point where I turn my head away when his photo creeps up on a movie poster, and I wasn't surprised that this was yet another one that I could easily have forgot about. Then again as far as acting with a broomstick up his ass (read, without any emotions whatsoever) Keanu Reeves still beats him hands down. Quote

I agree! But like I read on imdb: Don't let Nic Cage scare you, Alex Proyas is a genius and this is his best work yet Anyways, watched it with very very very low expectations for this one. Which is probably because I enjoyed it very much! I was expecting something a lot more occult and it delivered some pretty nice sci-fi fantasy, which was nice! Recommended! Quote
Skjalg Posted April 27, 2009 Report Posted April 27, 2009 My brother told me this movie was shitty, especially the ending that contained some aliens, which reminded me of the raeping of indiana jones. I thought keanu reaves and nicolas cage was the same person... ? Quote
Furyo Posted April 27, 2009 Report Posted April 27, 2009 That's complete bullshit, Alex Proyas' best work is Dark City hands down.... Quote
Erratic Posted April 27, 2009 Report Posted April 27, 2009 That's complete bullshit, Alex Proyas' best work is Dark City hands down.... And even Dark City seemed more like a film academics wet dream than a purely great film. I've seen it a few times and can never get by the fact how empty in every way the movie feels. Though, oddly enough Knowing looks interesting. Can't pass up big budget sci fi. Quote
-HP- Posted April 27, 2009 Report Posted April 27, 2009 I have Dark City DVD laying around on my room for a few weeks now, still got to see it... Quote
Warby Posted May 2, 2009 Report Posted May 2, 2009 ok i just saw it also based on jaffes "i totally underestimated this one" post now that comment doesn't actually imply that he likes it just that the scope of themes in this movie is alot bigger than what the trailer would make you believe and ... YES that is TRUE ! i am not quite sure if i liked or hated it one thing is for sure its the most EPIC movie i have seen in my life the only movies that come to mind that deal with "larger scale themes" than this would be akira the fountain or end of evangelion. i agree that the ending was a pure cheesefest and i was also disappointed that they put pictures to the words that the children are safe couldn't the movie just end on a depressing and disturbing note ?! because everything in this movie that was dark /depressing/disturbing and scary REALLY FUCKING WORKED ! on the imdb board there is a lot of discussion going on if in the end its aliens or angels. and peoples general stance seams to be: 1) scifi crowd: if it was aliens i loved it if it was angels i hated it! 2) and the religious corner says if it was angels i loved it and if it was aliens than i hated it ! me i thought it was pretty clear that it was aliens and that religion on earth as a whole was just a the result of miss communication/miss interpretation so i guess that puts me into the atheist sci-fi crowd ... thinking about it and writing it down and knowing that alex proyas is a sci-fi fan himself i conclude that i really liked the movie !
