st0lve Posted June 22, 2009 Report Posted June 22, 2009 Is there any HBO mini series that does suck? I can name one. Generation Kill is IMO better than BoB, maybe not as touching, but I just like the setting better. Quote
dux Posted June 23, 2009 Report Posted June 23, 2009 While this will be great like BoB, why is it America again? there were other countries in the war ya'know that sacrificed just as much if not more for their country. Annoys me. I agree, but i can see why two Americans would want to tell an American story. We need the same from one of our best directors. I am however looking forward to this, BoB was a great mix of drama and action. That's all that ever gets told these days. America this, America that, hoorah hoorah. No wonder half of today's generation thinks America won the war by itself. Quote
Izuno Posted June 23, 2009 Report Posted June 23, 2009 Yep. What everybody said. Although I feel I had already known a lot about WWII history when SPR and then BoB came out, both pieces got me re-interested about the topic I ended up learning a lot more because of it, partially due to all the WWII gaming I both played and worked on in the years since. Since I have generally known less about the Pacific Theatre, I'm looking forward to this. WWII is still cool even if you've had your full share of it in games and need "a break" from it for a while. Bic-B@ll Posted June 24, 2009 Report Posted June 24, 2009 you brits are free to make your own movies Quote
Section_Ei8ht Posted June 24, 2009 Report Posted June 24, 2009 How about a miniseries/movie/game that shows things from the German side of things? There's a side we never see or hear about in mass media. I mean sure, we won, they lost, we're great, blah blah blah, but I don't think every single German soldier was a cold blooded evil maniac, and I've certainly had enough of "The War, As Told By The Winning Side". Sure, we've got a few short segments in BoB, Der Untergang, and Letters From Iwo Jima but that's about it. Although I can't imagine the general public being comfortable with a Call of Duty game where you play the single player story as a German soldier, but it would definitely be interesting. Call of Duty: Volksdeutsche Quote

Warby Posted June 24, 2009 Report Posted June 24, 2009 http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0108211/ http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082096/ http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0363163/ there is plenty of movies that depict world war2 from the german side and i don't think anybody would have a problem if one of the cod campaigns was from the german side since nobody ever had a problem with playing german in multiplayer in any ww2 game either. big fuzz over nothing if you ask me Quote
Sentura Posted June 24, 2009 Report Posted June 24, 2009 but we might hurt de americanz feelingz if dey pley germans... it is unpatriotic D:!!! Quote

Sentura Posted June 25, 2009 Report Posted June 25, 2009 Theres enough ww2 going around. agree. it's gone old and stale... actually it always was. Quote

Annoys me. Agreed, it would be nice to see it from a perspective like Poland or something, I loved "Letters From Iwo Jima" because it depicted the Japanese side of the war brilliantly, something which had rarely been done beforehand. I can see why the US would want to make it about the US soldiers but yeah... it just makes WWII stuff boring really, because it's all "America... fuck yeah!" as usual. It was a World War afterall, many other countries were involved. Quote
Bic-B@ll Posted June 26, 2009 Report Posted June 26, 2009 nope. just the us and nazis. get your facts straight Quote
Chunks Posted June 28, 2009 Report Posted June 28, 2009 American directors, producers, money, and a mostly american audience... I don't see any reason for anyone to complain. Honestly, what do you expect? Besides, hollywood has been pretty generous in this category if I say so myself. Btw, a movie was recently released about the polish resistance during wwii... It was called Defiance. There are tons of movies you guys aren't mentioning or just aren't aware of. Quote
