Warby Posted February 11, 2009 Report Posted February 11, 2009 somebody tell me how it is that the xbox live service or the southpark studios site knows where my machine is located and than manages to conveniently cut me off from their services ?! i am living in denmark right now because of my job at io interactive and i am really starting to wonder why i am living here because everything is super expansive i pay like 50% of my salary in tax. its ass fucking cold during the winter ( and sping and fall aswell really) and now I CANT EVEN DOWNLOAD PSYCHONAUTS FORM XBOX LIVE even though i am willing to pay the moneys D: i just went outside into the cold to buy some Microsoft space dollars at a store so that i could get the game why couldn't the xbox live market place tell me BEFORE i redeem the code that the selected game is not available for me here ... and WHY THE FUCK IS IT NOT AVAILABLE HERE TO BEGIN WITH =?????????????= HASS !!!!!!!!!!! so what is the solution here ? - going through a proxy server ? - ip spoofing ? - will a new account that claims i am in the u.s. be enough ? Minos Posted February 11, 2009 Report Posted February 11, 2009 - will a new account that claims i am in the u.s. be enough ? That could work. That´s how brazilians are able to use xbox live (registering an US address), since we don´t officially have live here. I had the same problem recently with Steam, I can´t buy any Rockstar/2K games either... it´s pretty fucking lame. Quote
-HP- Posted February 11, 2009 Report Posted February 11, 2009 http://whatismyipaddress.com/ Has you can see, the internets can see exactly where you are. And nowadays, not even proxy works (Not most of them anyways). But yeah, to be able to get some demos or buy some games, some people use US accounts. Quote
Pericolos0 Posted February 11, 2009 Report Posted February 11, 2009 thats weird, i downloaded psychonauts for my xbox here in sweden, wonder why denmark cant have it :s. Quote
Warby Posted February 11, 2009 Author Report Posted February 11, 2009 maybe i should hop with my xbox onto a train to malmö hook it up in a webcafe download it and go home again Quote
Steppenwolf Posted February 11, 2009 Report Posted February 11, 2009 It's companys all shitting over net neutrality. Youtube being one of the biggest offenders in recent time. On the internet it really shouldn't make a difference where you are and where you come from because the next thing is that news and information gets filtered depending on your location. Good bye freedom and democracy. Other things that piss me off kinda related to the topic: Why does google not understand that some people need searches in different languages? It's a fucking pain in the ass to get redirected to google.se or to google.com when i clearly want to use google.de!! And then when i save favourites for the three in firefox it only saves the language settings for one of them so i get redirected again. ARGH!!! Or why does Microsoft assume that everybody with a swedish xbox live account speaks fluent swedish? Its especialy stupid considering that everything is in english except for game descriptions. Why is it so hard to implement a language option? Or when i use the german version of firefox why do some websites redirect me to their german versions even tho i clearly want to open the english/american/swedish version and my PC is not located in germany? Fucking stupid. Its kinda the opposite of google. Let people think and decide for themselves! edit: oh great, i just updated google earth and now its in swedish Quote

Warby Posted February 11, 2009 Author Report Posted February 11, 2009 yeah google is actually an example where that "please give me google in english" button fixes it for me for good until next time i format my system or flush my history and cookies to get rid of all that *caugh* in there. Quote
Mazy Posted February 11, 2009 Report Posted February 11, 2009 Last I checked I had Psychonauts on my Marketplace. Haven't tried buying it (Bought the PS2 version to replay it), but I figure its purchasable if its shown there. Where did you buy that 360? AFAIK then its somewhat locked to the nationality of the machine, rather than the profile (Like it is on the PS3), so that you can't download, say, the Japanese RE5 demo. Oh and by the way, try and whine more, if you can Quote
Warby Posted February 11, 2009 Author Report Posted February 11, 2009 the 350 got bought in germany and i checked a list and psychonauts is available as originals/download IN GERMANY !111 Quote

Neil Squibb Posted February 11, 2009 Report Posted February 11, 2009 Even English speaking countries outside of the U.S. are not free of these inconveniences. In England I still can't buy EA games (e.g. Spore) through Steam, where I'm pretty sure Americans have been able to for a couple of months now. Quote
Taylor Posted February 11, 2009 Report Posted February 11, 2009 When I was in Japan I was correctly identified as such and Google Maps would helpfully write all my directions in Japanese. Even after I managed to get Google itself to be in English and tried typing the destination in romaji I have fake accounts for the US and JP stores to get around this. I only have one 360 account, but I'm pretty sure in April I'll have to buy a JP 360 and make a new one because of the region locking. And I'm glad to see "space dollars" is catching on! Quote
