Nysuatro Posted January 24, 2009 Report Posted January 24, 2009 http://www.globalgamejam.com/ Who is going or already went ? I am probably going to the one in Belgium, Antwerp next weekend. Quote
Punky Posted January 24, 2009 Report Posted January 24, 2009 Cool, I might go since Antwerp is about an half hour from where I live Quote
Nysuatro Posted January 24, 2009 Author Report Posted January 24, 2009 Would be cool to meet people from mapcore Quote
Zacker Posted January 25, 2009 Report Posted January 25, 2009 I have been to the last two Nordic Game Jams, which is where the idea originates from and it's definitely something I can recommend. In particular if you are in a fairly specialized position then it's cool be doing something completely else than your day job. Quote
ShaDoW Posted January 26, 2009 Report Posted January 26, 2009 I'll be at the Belgian GameJam in Antwerps together with my colleagues. Considering its in our office building and partly being organized by us. Nysuatro & Punky, be sure to bring your own laptops or something. Since I don't think we have any available desktop machines for the participants to use. Quote
Zacker Posted January 26, 2009 Report Posted January 26, 2009 On that note I just have to tell a story about my first game jam in 2007. I ended up in a group where we wanted to developed in Unity as that was clearly a very promising platform and there were people on site to help us with technical issues. We did however have a serious lack of Macs in the group, which is required as the Unity dev IDE does not run on Windows. We tried to call around to friends and see if we could borrow some macs, but this only gave us one more. So we had to drive over to IO, where a bunch of us worked, and grap one of the Xbox devkits which are actually based on Apple hardware. This is quite a paradox considering how much competetion there is between Apple and Microsoft and yet Microsoft used Apple hardware due to these having an IBM PowerPC like the Xbox. Quote
hessi Posted January 26, 2009 Report Posted January 26, 2009 the first presentations of the xbox 360 used power mac's in the background. the xbox case was just a placeholder and not even wired http://www.anandtech.com/tradeshows/sho ... I=2420&p=5 Quote
e-freak Posted January 26, 2009 Report Posted January 26, 2009 well it's an open "secret" microsoft has invested into apple over the last few years and bought stocks to gain influence (see bootcamp development etc). i'm not so surprised they are using these for development as these systems are normed (in opposite to PCs which can have endless numbers of HW configurations)... Nysuatro Posted January 26, 2009 Author Report Posted January 26, 2009 ok np. Got my laptop with me because I first have an exame before I can come. Looking forward to it. Quote
Punky Posted January 26, 2009 Report Posted January 26, 2009 I just checked the dates, and unfortunately I won't make it, I'm only 16, so I have to be at school, it would have been nice to go there though, it's so close, and I could meet other people with the same interests, it would be the first time for me to go to a gamedev "meeting/workshop". Being a young level-designer can really suck sometimes Quote
Pericolos0 Posted January 29, 2009 Report Posted January 29, 2009 damn, if i was in Belgium i would definitely come over for this, it sounds fun.. and only like 20 minutes from my parents house Quote
