FrieChamp Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 If we spin [bioShock] the right way and get the right twist of innovation, we can make six parts of it, as Star Wars did," 2K president Christoph Hartmann told MCV. "Look at Star Wars. It's a fight between good and evil, just like BioShock." "But we have to be careful not to cash in," he added. "Because [bioShock] is so story driven, the question obviously arises: how long can you do it without turning into The Matrix? The first Matrix was great, the second one was weird and the third one, you thought: 'Who [making this] is on crack and who isn't?'" Continuing, the president explained the dangers: "I won't name the company, but there was a great racing game years ago. They brought it back year-on-year. If you look at the scores, it's hard to believe what they've done to it. It's upsetting, actually." Electronic Arts' Need for Speed series seems to fit Hartmann's description perfectly http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/56633 See the question in the subject, interested to hear what you think. Hourences Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 I want 1 or possibly 2 more. 5 is total overkill and will turn it into a lame franchise most likely, even when he says it won't. Hard to prevent that kind of thing from happening really. Quote
Nysuatro Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 I didnt finished the first bioshock because it was boring after a while :s So don't know about the sequels .. Quote
Warby Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 0 bioshock 2 would have to get better review scores than the first one (and it wont) in order for me to buy it. but if they manage to always one up themselves score wise with another sequel they should make sequels for ever Quote
Mazy Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 2K is trying to be Activision, how cute Anyway, I've really had enough of Bioshock for a long while, played through it twice in a row, really didn't hold up that well on second playing tbh. That said, if they make a sequel thats different enough and not just a glorified addon then I guess it could be pretty good, all depends on what they do with it and if they somehow manage to make it interesting to have more games then it might turn out to be a good idea. If its just Bioshock 1 over and over then its more pathetic milking than anything else. Quote
Pericolos0 Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 Would be nice if they actually made their sequel into a fun game =)! Really don't understand what's so great about bioshock, except the setting. Quote
jaboo224 Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 0, bioshock got boring after about one hour for me... Its the same thing over and over again much like farcry 2 Quote
Thrik Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 It seems ridiculously ambitious for them to think about doing five sequels. There aren't many examples of games or even films that can really stand up to that kind of longevity, with their cited Star Wars being one of the few exceptions. Quote
Meotwister Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 Unless you're talking about like the Halloween movie series. There are a few titles that go way beyond 3 for no really good reason. I honestly don't know how many sequels I'd want for Bioshock considering I haven't been able to play the original one! Quote
e-freak Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 Artstyle was great but the game it self was pretty meh. No need for a second Bioshock. Let the creative people think of another universe/setting, get your self some good game designers to have the game stand out more and you are good to go. No need for name-recycling... Quote
Sentura Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 Artstyle was great but the game it self was pretty meh. No need for a second Bioshock. Let the creative people think of another universe/setting, get your self some good game designers to have the game stand out more and you are good to go. No need for name-recycling... you're forgetting the power of branding. i would wager that e.g. call of duty wouldn't be as successful as it is now if it hadn't kept the brand of the series. people like familiarity. 2d-chris Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 Can tell you lot are game developers, I'm very sure gamers love Bioshock I must be weird because I LOVE it and develope games. 2 sequels are enough, if they are good. Quote
Punky Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 I bought Bioshock about two weeks ago, have only played the demo before that :embarassed: and I stopped after a good 5 hours of playing, it was getting too repetitive and boring after a while, I really liked the art style, and the setting, the gameplay was original too, if they could make a second Bioshock, with the same great setting etc that I could play without getting bored, I'd buy it without any doubt. mjens Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 Depends who will do that. Look at the some examples: Call of Duty: COD1 - great game, COD2 - better than COD1, new features, better GFX, nicer feel, COD3 - new graphics but gameplay is not so good, there's not much new actions, back do IW and COD4 is great... COD3 was made by different company and there was not much ideas for new features... Heroes of Might and Magic: HOMM1 - totally great, new style on market, progres to HOMM3 and then... HOMM4 - weird product, seatures like moving units, new shitty castle upgrades... So if Bioshock 2 will be made by 2K Boston, will have a lot of great ideas, cool features and great story then it might be cool but 3,4 and even 6 on the same title/characters - no way... Many of games that I wrote about are not so bad, it's my opinion about that titles. Quote
Taylor Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 I hope the sequels are longer than a lift sequence and suprise BSOD ending. Quote
