Bic-B@ll Posted January 2, 2009 Author Report Posted January 2, 2009 there are no wifi hot spots around me besides my own wifi router, i cant pick up any of my neighbors with my touch, but even then, i doubt it has their address stored and my ip address only resolves to my isp's address edit: http://www.skyhookwireless.com/howitworks/coverage.php that answers it and is fucking creepy. we secure our wifi by mac address but i guess that can't stop them from logging its location, its not hidden Quote
-HP- Posted January 2, 2009 Report Posted January 2, 2009 The iPod Touch does have Google Maps now, as part of the $20 add-on suite of software announced at MacWorld. You can lookup an address and it will show a route to that location. However, it does not have full GPS capability. If you are within range of a few Wi-Fi hotspots the iPod can triangulate its position to show your start point and then plot a route to your destination, but it will not be constantly updated and announce every turn for you like a traditional GPS device will. So, unless you are using it in a large city where you are likely to have a few Wi-Fi hotspots in range, you'd likely have to enter your start point manually and then it will give you a route. (Note that you have to be within a Wi-Fi hotspot's range to receive any map data for the iPod, so you'd have to plan out your trip before leaving your home/office/coffeehouse) Quote
Bic-B@ll Posted January 2, 2009 Author Report Posted January 2, 2009 ive found that it caches maps very well so if i want to follow a route i view all of it while connected to the internet and it stores all the maps i need. Quote
